To V or not to V...That is the waistlength-challenger's question. Naturals?

My natural hair is trying its best to inch towards waistlength
BUT it's only one section of a tiny straggly string of a V!

The rest is a weird hybrid of SL..APL..MBL.
I ALWAYS have this mean impulse to cut that V right off off
it feels so annoying to have this one lone maverick long-ish piece of hair
and once I loped it right off in a fit of impatience and immediately
regretted it...

it grew right back to that same way V

I remember when my relaxed hair fell out over a breakup :nono:
<see thumbprint below> and it was fingertip length..in that pic
it grew out in uneven strands..only barely touching shoulder
and the only thing that kept me from despair as I was determined to just learn to love it boy-cut short...

the only thing that gave me hope was that single tail
of hair trailed down my in a V

I notice some of the beautiful heads of hair ..grow with the hair descending in V while others have a blunt cut. I'm so crazy to get to waistlength...I just happy to touch it the the tip of the V but greatly admire the blunt look, too

Both are beautiful!

If it grows that way no matter how many times you cut it, I would just trim it that way. I think V/U and layers are better than blunt cuts anyway, it adds style.

My hair grows in a V shape as well. Stylists tend to cut it into a U shape even though I tell them that I don't mind the V.

I'm putting off trims until I hit mbl, so I know that the V will be back very soon. It's good in a way because just when I get frustrated, the V will hit my next goal and let me know that the rest of my hair can't be far behind.

your hair is so pretty!

It never occurred to me to trim it in that way...
I think that's the solution for me
rather than always keeping it cut off..

you have gorgeous hair..
A U shape is more a compromise..that's an idea,too

I have to admit the same.. I love even if it's one piece of hair that touches the waist...it's the same way I felt getting to SL when the V reached below collarbone..and then ..suddenly I was at SL..the rest of the hair caught up.:yep:

i say leave it!!! forever i didnt know peoples hair grew like that lol i always thought (irl) when i saw it they cut it like that. it wasnt til i joined hair forums that i learned this... and i still dont see a problem with it. let it be... your hair is happier like that lol

My hair tends to grow in an upside down u shape. I use to have it cut in a V shape until about 2 years ago. I decided at that time that prefered the blunt cut. I started cutting my hair until I got that blunt cut. I took 3 major cuts.

Congrats of making waist!:yay:

This thread IS a good one Kayte cuz it reminds us that folks' hair doesn't necessaily grow in even or in a blunt shape. While people may love symmatery, nature doesn't! :evillaugh:

Just wanna remind folks that nothing's "wrong" w/ any shape/eveness issues. That's how hair grows! :woot: :woohoo:

Yep, let it be. I didn't realize for the longest that hair grew that way either, but that's because up until this year I always had breakage in the area that would have been my "V" . I got a blunt cut in April, and have pretty much just let it grow out. and that seems to be the way it's growing.

DLewis,I'll take your hair in any shape..
awwww,but I can't claim wl yet...:ohwell:
but,thanks!

the V barely touches the waist and I dint even know it..
it's been worn in a braid and it shrinks triple-time
and I just {shrug} wash it band it up..
but some friends challenged me to wear it down
and it got blown out and someone said
girl......your hair..... is at your waist!!!!!
not yet,I say till the rest catches up!
:nono:

it's so good to hear others say....that not only does their hair grow that way which I have read on the board..

^^^ great information^^^

that it is either trimmed in that way ...or just allowed to grow in that way and does not always have to be symmetrical as Jamaraa
wisely pointed out

While people may love symmatery, nature doesn't!
wow..........

I wouldn't cut it, hair grows in layers, it will most likely keep growing like that

I've learned so much in this thread.:grin:thanks all~

I thought my hair was so odd..even my mother said...after it broke off
and there was this lone long tail ..she said in this dismissive voice...
{she has naturally fast growing 3-something-hair}

you have only this little tail of hair in the back..and that's all
maybe that's why I have dismissed as odd
..I took on my mother's value of my hair...especially as her hair was always
long, thick beautiful naturally black...
lol.. back then she could turn her nose up at mine
today...my mom is my hair fan :yep:
she loves my hair...always asks
what do you use ..what do you use..get me some:lachen:

anyway I read Lauryn's blog about how she had a piece of hair in the middle and I thought wow..someone else has the same thought about that....
I do see members's hair in the v shape all the time and it looks so beautiful

but when it's me :ohwell:especially in the
between ..slow-grow phase..& seeing a glimpse of the-goal-length....
well then, I think it's just random, odd and completely unnatural

It's coming up more as an issue, because I am slowly approaching my long-awaited dream..that I thought could NEVER come true
of maybe in the next year reaching nearly full waist length..
that's why I get impatient
but as LoveLILI says it's an indicator of progess....not a discourager
and as the ladies who spoken have said..let it grow that way and I am!
I plan to trim it to THAT shape..its organic symmetry and
that's also part of my adapting the natural aesthetic

embracing the V
:yep:

I like blunt cuts and U shapes

I think if I had a V I would just let the sides grow instead of trimming the longest piece

My hair has always had a longer tail in the middle. I like blunt ends, so I would cut it off all the time, but it always grew back the same way. Finally I gave up; when the tail bothers me, I pin it up so it looks even with the rest. It doesn't show in ponytails or buns, so it doesn't bother me as much since those are my usual hasirstyles.
