could this be a step to transitioning to natural? Just curious

Not me (natural). Not anytime soon. Been there...done that. That's why I texurized in the first place. As far as stretching out relaxers, I've done that for over 20 years.

I ended up transitioning to natural before after stretching out a relaxer. I loved the texture so I grew out my relaxer, cutting a few inches off every couple months until it was all natural. I did end up going to a texturizer eventually.

Nope. Just making sure I have the healthiest relaxed hair possible. It will be a long time before I give up the versalility and ease of care of my relaxed hair.

Re: To those who stretch out relaxers or texturize

I stretch my relaxer to cut back the number of times I have to retouch a year and to keep my hair healthy by avoiding overlapping.

Re: To those who stretch out relaxers or texturize

I love stretching out my relaxer but I will never go natural.

Re: To those who stretch out relaxers or texturize

Not really...I just want to see what my REAL texture is by stretching out my relaxer.

Re: To those who stretch out relaxers or texturize

Yes and no. No because i've always gone at least 12 weeks between relaxer touch-ups so it's just something I do. Also I love wearing my hair straight. Yes because I've been having some hair issues the last few months and am contemplating what would be the best move for my hair. I broke down last month and got a relaxer after 5 months. I am doing the 6 month no relaxer challenge because I want to see how my hair is doing. It is something that im seriously thinking about, I just need to get over my obsession with straight hair and become confident in myself that I can care for and style my natural hair.

Re: To those who stretch out relaxers or texturize

I am in two minds. I will decide this once I reach my goal. If I decide to go natural I will transition as I am too much of a vain coward to do the big chop

. If I do continue to relax in the future I will only keep it to 2 re-touches a year.

Pradalover...I'm the same way!!!!!! Ever since I joined this board I have seen beautiful albums of women with long, healthy relaxed hair and long, healthy natural hair...And I stretch my relaxers out to see how my new growth looks and how I can deal with it...If I decide to go natural, I think I will do it VERY GRADUALLY because I can't do the big chop!!! And I admire those who did!

This is my reason for stretching.

Me too. The longer I stretch, the easier it is too see my newgrowth when it's time for a retouch.

Re: To those who stretch out relaxers or texturize

Not me bubln, I have been texturized for 8 months after being natural. I do know however once I grow out the texturizer it will be easier because the texture isn't as different.

Re: To those who stretch out relaxers or texturize

Nope (to going natural)--I was completely natural BRIEFLY, but wasn't happy with "the look", and I don't mean texture. I didn't feel like I looked grown-up or sophisticated with the styles that I could do with it natural. Not to offend any naturals, I mean for ME personally. I have a young face, so wearing an afro-puff, for example, makes me look 15 yrs old.

The only reason I'm "stretching" it is because I may be transitioning anyway.

Does that count?

That counts, Karonica

For me, not exactly. Though stretching my relaxer has allowed me to entertain the thought of transitioning more seriously, I really enjoy the freedom my permed hair brings.
Plus, I get a chance to play w/my newgrowth!!!

^^^That and I want to see how long I can go in between relaxers

bumpin for more feed back...

Originally, yes, I did this to go natural but that wasn't for me.

So now, it's a way to minimize damaging my hair by overlapping when I retouch.

Are your pics in BP the natural texture? If not, that is a cool relaxer. Either way your hair is beautiful.
I am transitioning right now (almost 2 months) I never stretched before, but I wish I had. And if I can't do it, it'll just be a long stretch(<---hoping not to come to that)

I'm texturized AND stretch.

To answer your question...MAYBE! I don't see it in the near future, but possibly within 5-10 years from now.

Once my hair had significant length I relaxed every 12 weeks, hence the term "stretching". Sometimes it was like going from new growth under control to  , anyway, my decision to transition was just based on my hair texture. It's hard to straighten so I decided to stop going against what was obviously intended for my hair CURLS!!:ohwell:

That's my 2 cents....

I stretch my relaxers to basically avoid overlapping and to avoid how often my hair comes in contact with chemicals. I am thinking about doing a very long transition, because I won't be doing the BC EVER. I can't see myself with short hair. My boyfriend was mad because I said I was going to transition last year (around Dec), and ended up relaxing my hair.

I would love to stop relaxing, and I am gonna be on this hair so that I can definitely get thru my transition! Yay! I just took the relaxing products out of my closet, so there is no temptation! My mom is gonna laugh at me just like my sister did just now, when I told her I was gonna go natural.

Thx!! But no, I'm texturized.....my natural hair doesn't quite "hang" like it does with the texturizer....

It's unthinkable for me to relax any sooner than 3 months. Its how I have always done it. Now, 6 months----that would be a challenge but I really wouldn't know the difference. Dealing with new growth has never really been a real issue. :look:

I stretch my relaxers every six months, and the idea does pop in my head a few times, but I'm not ready to take that transitioning step any time soon.
