Is there really a "need" to give my hair a break in other words wearing it loose for a few weeks because I just can't... It will nap like crazy and I won't be able to go anywhere (my hair can't be loose under a wig) so will anything bad actually happen if it's only loose on wash day? If so please tell me what will happen and how you prevent it.

@silenttullip, I haven't worn my hair loose since April 2009 (I was in braids first and now I'm now in twists). People wear locs and sisterlocks and don't suffer any issues.

The only thing you need to be aware of is shed hair will get caught inside your strands so if you aren't taking your hair down to remove the shed hair--not necessarily to wear it loose, but just for the purpose of removing shed hair as part of your regular regimen, you may end up with tangles and mats you will not like. Otherwise, there's no DANGER in never wearing your hair down--as far as I know.

I can't think of any either. I almost never wear my hair down either; I just don't feel like being bothered with the detangling sessions :nono:. I wear my hair in twists for 12 weeks (I take out, DC and redo every 3 weeks), and then take a week "off." That off-week is spent in a bun, so my hair stays detangled during that time. Then I twist it back up and KIM.

I would just make sure to restyle it so you are not putting the same stress on in the same direction on the same hairs over and over and over.

For instance, with twists, make sure you change the parting, the styling, etc. I have fine hair so I need to give my hair a "break" with repeated styling efforts.

Thank you all... I was worried from reading that so often but now that I know it's no issue I feel better. I always remove the shed hair every week so all should be well :)
What would I do without you ladies
