To grease the scalp or not to grease the scalp?

Ladies,

I need your opinion on this. Recently, I was reading up on Cathy Howse and her techniques and she vehemently advocates nothing, ABSOLUTELY nothing on the scalp. And people, who follow her techniques have had great results. However, my mother will berate me for not doing it, saying that it is the cause of my NG being matted.

Out of laziness, I dont do it as faithfully, and I DO have a problem with my NG being matted. But I am confused as to what is correct.

Any suggestions...

I don't grease my scalp, but I do use grease on my hair. It keeps the moisture in better than oil on my hair. I don't put anything on my scalp, aside from MTG. HTH!

I don't grease my scalp and for me, this results in my pores and follicles being able to breathe. I don't have dandruff or itchy scalp or anytihng. Now, I have used a combo of essential oils like jojoba, rosemary and lavender to massage my scalp as a stimulating, pre-poo treatment but I don't consider that greasing my scalp.

It sounds like your NG needs moisture to keep it supple and from matting.

I think it's better to use oil on your scalp. I use olive oil or carrot oil and a few others eg wild growth hair oil (this softens up the new growth). The grease builds up on your scalp and just makes your hair harder to shampoo with all the build-up on your scalp.

You can use the heavy greases on your hair but not scalp for the best results.

On wash day, I oil my scalp w/ WGO and my new growth stays supple and manageable until next wash day.

I stopped using grease about 2 years ago. Since then, my dandruff disappeared and my hair has grown faster. For me, grease inhibits growth, it's usually laden with chemicals, and I don't usually like the way it smells. :nono:
Anything that I need grease for, WGO takes care of. :yep:

The majority of the times,I don't usually put anything on my scalp. But from my experiences in the past, I have been known to have dry scalp which can cause dandruff (eeww).

I usually put evoo on my scalp to remedy the dryness. I wouldn't use typical "grease" because it would really just clog up my pores.

Well, I have stopped putting grease on my hair about 4 years ago because once when I was having it washed it DIDN'T LATHER! A friend of my aunt, who was washing it for me, explained to me why it didnt, because of the grease. When I said "grease the scalp" I meant, putting anything on the scalp at all, Oops I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

SO any suggestions on keeping the NG in check??

I haven't used any grease in more years than I can remember. I live in a dry climate, and when my scalp gets dry, it's usually close to retouch time. I just use jojoba oil on my scalp and it also helps to control the new growth...

i only use grease on my scalp after i have had a re-touch. art effex oil conditioning.

other thajn every 3 months my scalp is free of anything. water touches my scalp every 5 days

I had dandruff when I used to grease my scalp. Try using oils for your new growth. Experiment to find the right one for you. Some ladies swear by castor oil, but it leaves my hair heavy and sticky for example.

Good luck!

I use alittle WGHO, carrot oil or jojoba on my scalp because they absorb well (mostly in the winter) & alittle grease on my length (enough so that it doesnt appear greasy but is shiney). When I used oil on my entire head root to tip, it ended up all over my forehead, neck, clothes, pillowcase, gym equip, etc. It was uncontrollable for me. :(

They sell it at BSS in my area in Maryland
but online they sell it at sheldeez.com
Im out so I dont have the ingredients but it has no mineral oil or petroleum (sp) they have a "grease" and an oil (like kemi)

Hi,

Do you mind telling me what's in this & where it can be purchased? tia

I use Coconut Oil on my scalp, before then I've used Sulfur 8 and sometimes Softee Indian Hemp on my scalp, my hair grew with no problems. I prefer using oils now, their much lighter than grease.
