I couldn't keep quiet any longer and decided to sign on up so here I am, and I must say, you gals are serious about that hair thang, but I must give props were props is due...I have never seen such beautiful hair!!!!!!!

Now , here's the deal. I have this crazy curly, wavy, and can be frizzy mind of it's own hair....with a relaxer...I guess it's more 3bish and shoulder length when straight...anywho, I've decided to quit fighting it and embrace the curls God gave me...I'm going to transition! Now I'm only 8 weeks post relaxer and I typically went 12 weeks in between touch ups...so I'm cool for now...it's week 13 that I'll start to panic

Need some hair styling tips! I'm real good with the wash and go, but I want to get creative and try different looks.

I've tried the braid out but I'm not doing something right and it comes out completely shapeless and frizzy. Any technique recommendations???

Thanks bunches!

:yay: Congrats on transitioning!! I personally wear twistouts. I conditioner wash mostly & use a little product(shea butter mixture) on each twist, set on perm rods and let dry. When I began transitioning I did many rollersets. I also used a moisturizing creme & oil mixture back then.

Thanks Mecca! I'll try it with the perm rod, that may give a little more definition on the ends!

Welcome Curlilocs!:) I agree that twists and/or braid outs with rods on the ends would be excellent for your hair.

Wearing a bun is the only style that works for me as a transitioner along with cornrows. Blowdrying my hair straight works too if you don't mind using heat.

I could never get my braid-outs nor bantu knot-outs to look right either; mine would turn out dry and frizzy. Rollersets wouldn't last very long and my hair would end up getting dry as well (I don't have the patience to do rollersets very often).

So, I've decided to stick to the bun challenge while I transition.

Hey curil, welcome to the forum and good luck on your transitioning decision!!

Welcome to the forum!! i am transitioning as well (I just started month 9). I used to stretch till 12 weeks too. I used to do a lot of flexi rod sets during months 4-6. You can check out my album for pics. Now I do a lot of braidouts and twistouts. I agree with the suggestion on the perm rods. Also take a look at the products your using. I didn't get my braidouts to give me the definition I wanted until I started using Carol's daughter products. So just play around a little with the products your using when you do them and maybe that could be your answer. There is a great thread on here called the transitioner's support thread started by some of our naturals and vertern transitioners so check that out too, they offer up a lot of encouragement and good advice. But stick with it and congratulations.

I can't really offer any tips on creative styles because I normally wear perm rod sets of strawsets, however, I want to say congrats on deciding to transition!

Braidouts and twistouts are the way to go once the roller sets don't quite cut it anymore. BTW Choc - I BC'd in my 9th month of transitioning. I was SOOOOOO ready! I just viewed your album and your natural hair texture is beeyootiful!
