When I first joined a hair board, back in March 2003 I think, my hair was not looking it's best. I mean it was kinda/sorta healthy, but not like it use to be. I would get a wash & set every other week yet my hair was suffering from breakage/shedding and dry, brittle ends. I realized the secret to keeping my hair healthy. Do you want to know what it is? Nah, I don't think i can tell you

Just kidding. I find that if I wash my hair at least 2x per week I lose about 10 hairs per day (AND that's a marked improvement). I also use Nexxus Keraphix once every other week. I leave same on my hair for at least 10 minutes, or if I have time, half an hour. I usually mix it with anything that's in the shower at the time, meaning LUST, Suave Coconut Conditioner, etc. Every 4-5 weeks, I apply Aphoghee Treatment followed by the Aphoghee balancing moisturizer and my usual staple of products.
I must say, the overall health of my hair has improved tenfold. I just thought I'd share that with the ladies (and gents) on this board that were combating breakage/shedding. I hope this helps.

Now if I can only find a miracle magic cure for thinning edges

Thanks for the tips...I think I will do an Aphogee treatment tonight...I have a little breakage near my left ear that I need to stop before it gets TOO serious.

I notice when I use shampoo it drys out my ends and we all know dry ends mean breakage. So I have adopted to do conditioner wahes only. This has been working well, still some breakage, however, I'm still working on a technique that will combat this problem. This weekend I'm giving away all of my shampoos except Paul Mitchell "Shampoo one" and CON. The CON works well on my son's hair.

I think basically what has helped me is CLEAN hair

, no residue or anything to weigh it down and 'pull it out' - i guess the no poo'ers can use their conditioners only with the same results.

As long as you are using a:

protein treatment
VERY moisturizing conditioner
leave-in conditioner/spray (taking heed to pay close attention to your ends)

you should be straight and on your way to healthy hair.

Since I've been on this board I have experimented with a few different protein conditioners and my Aphogee has been getting dusty. Thanks for reminding me that Aphogee is still a good thing especially in combo with Keraphix!

thanks for the info, but can i ask you about the keraphix? i hear alot about it and i was wondering how much does it cost and is less potent than the aphogee?

thanks for the tip. i also use aphogee treatment and the balancing moisturizer. it does work because i was experiencing bad breakage back in december. every since i heard about aphogee i been using it every 6 to 8 weeks.

It's cheaper that the aphogee

(A= $19-$23; K=$12-$18). Keraphix is a light protein treatment whereas Aphogee is not. I like the keraphix because I can use it every other week W/O overdoing the protein. That's the only nexxus product that i actually will rave about. If you have something that already works for you, don't spend your moolah on the keraphix.

Thanks for posting this, CaramelHonee. I'm taking notes because you have beautiful hair.

And BTW, I agree Britt, Ms. Jennifer does have some lovely hair.

Thanks Caramel Honee for the tips. This is a good thread. I like Keraphix also and my MAJOR protein treatment is Joico K-Pak. It's expensive as HECK, but I'm gonna have to go on and break down and buy a liter of it.

Supergirl - I've wanted to try the joico but when i saw the price my wallet jumped out of my hand and ran out of the darn store... i had to chase the sucker in my car

all the way home!!!

LOL! I don't think I've laughed this hard in a week!

Caramelhonee, this info is right on time, Thank You!!! Just two weeks ago, I started shedding a little too much for comfort. I am officially transitioning with about 2 to 3 inches of new growth, so I dont know if this is the reason,(maybe now is the time to slow down on the daily rinsings, I dont know) but I will certainly give this a shot
