Ok, I just purchase organic virgin coconut oil. What's the best way to use it to get the most benefit?

ooohhh - good question. i just bought some and am curious too. I use it on my ends when i baggie and i add some to my conditioner when i deep conditioner. can't wait to see what other uses i can get from it! great thread...

I use it on the night before I am going to shampoo in the morning. I put it on my entire head and sleep with a bonnet on. I also use it occasionally if I've air-dried my hair and the ends turn out rough. The coconut oil usually makes them soft.

Are you ladies warming it or will it emulsify by rubbing in your hands? I need answers cause this will be in my regimen starting tonight.

I just rub it in my hands to emulsify it and them apply to my hair to seal after I use a leave in conditioner or water for moisture.

Coconut oil is also good mixed with warm honey and added to a deep conditioner.

Sounds yummy. Does anyone use as a hot oil treatment. I thought that I saw in someone's fotki to mix olive oil, jojoba oil and coconut oil for a hot oil treatment by getting under the dryer for 30 min. Then proceed with pooing.

I put it on the stove next to a heated burner, and I let the heat melt it. Then I mix it with avocado, olive, jojoba and almond oils. Then I use this mixture as a hair and body oil. It can also be used in conditioners and shampoos.

I just wanted to share that I mixed 1 tblsp of coconut oil, olive oil and jojoba oils together. Warmed it in the microwave and then applied to my scalp and hair for a hot oil treatment. I sat under the dryer for 30 min. I continued and left it on the another 2 hours or more while I ran some errands. Of course I had a hat on, so no one knew what was going on up under it. My hair and new growth was nice and soft. I think I may add this to my regimen every other week. I think this will help extend stretching. I have yet to emulsify it and just use it as a moisturizer. I will probably do this Wed when I just poo and bun.

I use it before co-washing. I completely saturate my hair with it and then cowash. It seems to leave just the right amount of oil in my hair. All the other ways I've tried using it (or any oil) eventually leave my hair dry and crunchy, especially the ends. But this way works very well.

I use mine to seal my hair when I air-dry it. While the hair is wet and I have put my leave-in moisturizer on it, I apply the coconut oil. When my hair dries, it is really soft and shiny.

I did something similar this weekend. I warmed coconut, jojoba, olive oil, castor oil and used as a hot oil treatment. I sat under a heat cap for 30 minutes then washed out with shampoo. My hair felt soft and moisturized.

I usually use a small amout after moisturising and sealing with Castor to add shine. I will add some next time i deep con.

I bought mine from the grocery store and it was in solid form. But I just rub it in my hands and it melts... then I procede by rubbing it on my edges and it's also good for my hair ends.
