A year out of chemo and I finally have some natural hair on my head. I am looking for tips on how I can keep my hair moist and manageable. It just dries out in the heat.
Sorry to hear that you are dealing with chemo aftereffects. My mom lives in MD and also used chemo/radiation...along with a very good friend. I had both use a little Jamaican black castor oil which helps to nourish the scalp and hair. A little goes a long way. I found it best to apply to damp hair. I would lightly mist my hair at night, then add a LITTLE to my damp hands before applying to my hair. Try hard not to be heavy handed or you will have an oil slick.
I would add some essential oils like lavender or other sweet smelling oils in to mask the strong smoky smell of JBCO.
I hope it works out...and let us know how things work out for you.
I like to use castor oil, I wait until my hair is nearly air dry and apply a small amount to my roots and scalp and distribute it towards the ends. HTH
i used some Qhemet Detangling Ghee and her Olive and Honey Balm last night, and my hair is still moist (soft and plump) i live in the midwest, so i know all about how hot it can get.
I've just reviewed Qhemet's Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee. I'm not in DC but I've been searching for something for a long time to moisturize my hair for an extended period of time and this is it! See my review HERE

i love this stuff so far. it melted my tangles and my hair didn't have to be wet/damp to do it. i used this stuff around 4pm yesterday and my hair is still soft.
I live in DC and I've found that my hair loves the heat and humidity we get here in the summer. I just juice up my strands before I leave my house, and after a couple of hours outside, my hair is butter soft.
DC's humidity is a natural girl's dream IMO I use a homemade glycerin/condish/AVG/oil mix, but as ms-gg said, any glycerin based moisturizer should do the trick.
