Thanks for the link, I did a trim myself earlier this month. I'm gonna start doing everything for my hair myself.

Wow, I am surprised that I saw this (compact cutting technique).....I didn't know what it was called but was seriously considering doing it myself!

I was at a hairshow last year and this stylist had his model to come out in the middle of the floor. He had her to fling her head down, as in bending down. Then he took all her hair as if he was going to make a pony tail, but he pulled his hands all the way to the ends, took his scissors and cut it!. When she stood back up and shook her hair out, it was a nice cut!

When I saw him doing it that way, I thought it was going to be jacked up or something, but it turned out very well. I have vowed to myself that I would try it one day, but I have to get up the nerve b/c i want to clip my own ends and the most I can muster to clip right now is about the length of this "i".

I decided to try it and it does work. After washing my hair, I added some Suave milk and honey conditioner and Amla oil on soaking wet hair and then put my hair in a low ponytail, comb the ponytail straight so that I could make an even cut straight accross. When I combed the ponytail out it was a little bit pass the end of my neck so I cut it right at the end of my neck (my heart was beating really fast at this point) and then release my hair. I ended up with short layers in the back and long layers in the front and my hair had more body to it.

Before my hair was almost done airdrying, I decided to try the square bob but I didn't cut anything off the back since I had already did when I used the ponytail method. I followed the steps from 14-24 and I love the end results. My hair appears to have more volume.

I have been thinking about this all day and I serisously want to go and try it. Right now just too darned chicken:eek:

Girl ever since I found the website I have been contemplating whether or not I should just go for it or let the students at Aveda Institute do it but I got nervous about them cutting off too much and I would be more upset if they messed it up than if I messed it up myself. I just took my time and did the damn thing but if you don't feel confident enough then step away from the scissors before you have any regrets.:lachen:

thanks for the link, I'm back to self trimming after I just went in for a trim but left w/ a haircut

Thats exactly how i cut my hair and have done so for years. For my niece i bring the pony rite to front so her layers are much shorter at the front and she still has length at the back.
