Hi ladies: Could you all please advise me how you cared for your hair during the time you were expecting? I'm 8 weeks preggo and having some dryness/breakage issues with my ends. I just want to make sure I still have some hair left on my head at the end of this journey ---HELP!:pullhair:

Congrats on the pregnancy! :congrats:

I would just say deep condition frequently, at least once a week, and moisturize/seal daily. Just keep those ends moisturized and protected and you will be fine. Also as you get further along into the last trimester braids are a good option (just as long as they aren't put in to tightly).

I am 25 weeks into my pregnancy and I know that dry hair can be a problem. I have to agree that deep conditioning will help. I either use design essential express conditioner or le kair cholestrol conditioner on my hair once a week for about 30 minutes. I hope that helps. Oh yeah and eat your omega 3s.

biweekly deep conditioning if possible-
i like ors replenishing (light protein) and aubrey organics honeysuckle rose conditioner (moisture). you can alternate this.
also moisturise your hair day and night.

secondly stay clear off essential oils- some are not safe in pregnancy.

medium protein conditioning if still experiencing breakage.

simple regimen works best- moisturising shampoo, moisturising conditioner, light protein conditioner, leave in and or moisturiser,
oil to seal. medium protein if needed.

be aware hair may not relax- this was my first pregnancy sign, i did a relaxer and my hair looked natural by day 3 only to discover i was few days late and voila +ve pregnancy test.

please try and take care of your hair properly in preparation for post partum shedding (not everyone experiences this)- wish i did not slack on conditioning as my hair was really in bad shape during my postpartum shedding period, although everything is in shape now that my son is 10 months, but was shedding up to 8 months post partum (i believe previously healthy hair would have been better able to deal with it).

I relaxed my hair every 12 weeks
I took my prenatal vitamins and iron religiously
I did daily conditioner washes and buns
No heat during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters

Very simple and my hair flourished.

Note: I couldn't take prenatal vitamins or iron my first trimester ( they made me violently ill ) my hair got very dry and brittle and the crown broke off. Once I hit my 2nd trimester... I could take my vitamins again and everything grew back! :)

I would say keep it simple - wash weekly, deep condition weekly and tie that hair up and cover the ends. Also, after the baby do not be alarmed if you see more than usual shedding. It is normal as your hormonal changes take place.

Congratulations on the baby!

Thanks so much for the feedback--I think I'm going to have to start back on the baggie method for the fall/winter months:yep:
