There are several threads running on rollersets and I know some of your excellent tips would help others. Please reply

What I would like to see is that fabulous step by step instruction guide from Amillion posted up here somewhere. I've lost count of how many times I've referred people to it.

I can't even find it anymore. Its what helped me ALOT.

I use a serum (such as Fantasia's but any one that you like will do).

I also use a leave in conditioner (Infusium, Razac, or Nourish in)but you can use a wrapping or setting lotion, whichever you prefer, but not too much.

On the ends I use a moisturizer like Healthy Ends, Motions oil, or Mango butter (again any one will do).

I section the hair in six (three in the front and three in back) and use butterfly clips to keep them separate.

I part the hair in thin-medium sections and roll the hair on magnetic clips carefully. Using the right size is a must. If you get your hair roller set at the salon, look at the colors of the rollers that they use.

I use the double prong clips and apply them carefully to the roller, making sure that it clasps both the roller and the hair. But be sure that you don't scratch your scalp as it leaves marks and can dry the hair (I believe Tracy pointed this out to us all).

Take your time. If a section begins to dry out, spray water or use a little more of the setting lotion/leave-in.

After all the hair is in rollers, I spray my hair with a sheen spray like Motions hair spray or ORS olive oil hair spray. I find that this gives my hair the bounce and sheen that we get from the salon.

I then use a hair net and sit under the dryer.

The time that you sit under the dryer is important as well. Also the temperature. Whatever temp or time you use, if you take the hair out before it is dry, your roller set will not be as bouncy or as curly. This depends on your taste as well.

After I take it out. I comb the curls down with a paddle brush and apply a hair dressing creme to moisturize it again and spray with sheen again before wrapping. I also spray the sheen again after it is wrapped. (I know it's a lot of sheen, but this is what they do to my hair in the salon, so I follow that).

That's all I can think of right now.

I found the link (and as is so typical, lost it)

but i did a search for rollerset and adrienne and it came up.

can someone link me to a website with a pic of the size of the rollers or just tell me how many inches the grey ones are?

Tip #1: using a heavy serum on the ends such as Keracare Silken Seal

Tip #2: using a light serum all over such as L'Oreal Smooth Intense

Tip #3: using a light setting lotion or leave-in so that your curls are not hard, but soft and silky

Tip #4: using a leave-in/heat protectant and a serum

Tip #5: using a wonderful fragrant smelling oil on your hands to finger combing your curls out so the smell gets in your hair. The oil adds extra sheen ( I use Carol's Daughter Tui Hair Oil)

I have only 2 tips...but they make a huge difference.

1. Be sure you hair is wet(keep misting it if you have to)...mine is dripping as I roll it.

2. Make sure you hair is entirely dry...root to ends before removing your rollers.

Like Sweetcocoa, I make sure my hair is dripping/soaking wet too. This makes a huge difference for me.

Less is best...water and/or leave-in only.

The more product you apply, the longer it takes your hair to dry.

I've noticed that also.
This also applies when I wear my hair natural. The more product the longer it takes to dry.

D I T T O !
The ONLY thing I use is a leave-in and some water.

what a great thread! rollersetting is def. a good skill to have when growing healthy hair!

allandra, which leave in do you use?

after the rollerset has dried on low to medium heat, blow on cool for 5minutes to set the curls to last longer

This also helps let you know your hair is completely dry. Sometimes I think my hair is dry because it is still warm from the dryer...then as it cools and I've started unrolling it I find the ends are still(very minorly) damp...but any dampness..no matter how small it is, is enough to ruin my set and cause frizz. This way finishing on cool)I only unroll one roller to check the ends...instead of 3 or 4.

also dont put in a lot of oils and products (believe me your hair doesnt need it!) after you remove the rollers cos the curls will fall earlier, the hair will fell heavy and you will loose that swinging bouncy look and feel.

I feel that I need sumthing heavy in my hair to prevent fly away hair.

I just did a set and the curls have already dropped (maybe cuz I took it out to early

What can I do to help protect fromthe humidity I think that is another cause of my hair dropping

Did you use setting lotion? A good setting lotion will help hold the curls.

yeh but last time I put a lil bit to much in and it came out all tuff, maybe I should add a lil more next time

do u think that is the problem

Just adding my two pence:
Like the others mentioned, I always use a creme leave-in and keep a spritzer with me, but I learned to spritz only the ends of the hair. I used to spritz the entire length and that added on to my drying time.

I like LadyJoli's tips on rollersetting except I dont comb out my curls with a paddle brush... I use a wide tooth comb or my fingers to separate/style the curls. :)

Is it really necessary to do this step if you use oils and have a good leave-in that's moisturizing???
