Time Took To Reach Hair Growth Goals???

Hey Nova,

My first immediate goal is even shoulderlength all around and not just the back. I give myself 2 months, and I'll have shoulderlength sides with past shoulderlength hair in the back. If I accomplish this goal it will have taken my a year and a half to get there from a close cropped cut.

it took me 2 months to grow my hair just neck length after i cut it to my ears. now it's been about 5 months in all and my hair is shoulder length. i predict in the next 3 months my hair will be back to wear it was before i cut it. ( went was about 1 inch from my bra strap)

I started with even shoulder length hair,

And it took me 7-8 months to reach brastrap length.

i can't remember exactly when i reached the top of bra strap, but i started at shoulder length in june 2000. so i'd say somewhere around two years... slow, i know, but i made it.

Please do! Cuz I'm feeling like a total slow poke right now....

I've been growing my hair for 2-3 years, I've had set backs, granted...but if I were growing at that rate I've had made it to brastrap 3 or 4 times by now!

and em girl whats yo regiment?? and how much growth are u getting/month??

ooookay... I'm kindo sur[rised, cause I dont think my hair grows THAT fast. I get about an inch a month...

As for my regime:

Honestly I find the less I do to my hair the better.

I shampoo/condition with nexxus therappe/humectress every 3 days or every 2 days in the summer. After each wash I always do a deep condition(or what I like to call deep conditoning.. lol I only leave it on for about 10 mins)
I rinse my hair in cool water. and pat a few times with a towel so its not soaking wet. I apply a little olive oil to the front, ends. and back of my hair and comb trough a few times with a wide tooth comb. *note my hair doesnt seem to tangle when wet, so just a few stokes with the comb gets it straight.

I'll then finger comb my hair back into a low "ponytail style" without the actual ponytail holder.. I'll smooth my hair back and sometimes i'l rolls the ends only in a couple curlers, and let it airdry.

If I don't use curler my hair once dry will look like I've done a braidout. Straight with a slight wave pattern the size of quarters. If need be I'll add some WGO (wild growth oil) about 5 drops to my hair. But honestly I'm finding I don't need to because my hair turns out shiny, and silky soft.

Once a month or 2 days before my relaxer I'll use a protein treatment. (Nexxus Emergencee with wonders!!!!)

And I'll straighten my hair every 3-4 months

*I don't ever use blow dryers or curling irons except for special occasions.

And I take a daily essential vit supplemnt. as well as 2000mg of msm and 1500 mcg's of biotin which is found in my hair supplement. and a daily scalp massage.

That's it!.. When I look at this list it looks so small compared to what I find some of the other ladies do. But this has worked wonders for me...Most important rule. Stop touching my hair!! I cant seem to keep my hand outof it lol

AND PLEANTY OF WATER!!!! I can't state that enough, water has done wonders for my skin and hair. I drink about 90-100oz a day. 2 "cups" in the morn ,2 at lunch 2 at supper 2 at night. "i use one of those tall water glasses as my "cup" which is probably equivilent to 1 1/2 cups instead of one

oh it does because i'm only getting an inch in six weeks (sorry i dont kno how much that wud be a month) and yet u're takin less vits than most pple on the board

For those who's achieved their hair growth goals, how long did it take you?

Thanks all for responding to my post. I now realize I'm combing my hair & wearing it down more instead of keeping it in a protective style until I reach my goal.

My hair grew best when I moisturized it each morning & wore it in a bun. In the evenings upon returning from work, I'd moisturize it again so it would be dry long before I went to bed.

So......back to protective styles. That way I'll be able to stay out of it so it can grow. Once again, thanks to all you hair angels for sharing your experiences & regimes.

Much continued success to all!

it took me about about eight months to reach my goal of midback length hair. I started from probably one inch past my shoulders after my trim in July. I am happy about that, but i know i need a trim. I will be doing that this week. Next goal waistlength, hopefully.

I want waist length hair. Hoping to get there within the year if this bloody breakage stops.
My hair grows on average about an 1" per month except during my shedding months of Nov-Feb where things seem to slow down and break due to dry air & cold winter.

From chin length to top of BS it can take me up to 6 months with regular trims. I kept it at 27-28" for the past few years, now I want more!!

It took 2 years to get to shoulders and one-length.
2 more years to get to top of brastrap.
1 more year to get to the bottom of brastrap.
It will take at least 2 more years to get to waist.

This is with hair worn curly.

My hair grows average- about 1/2 inch a month.

My last relaxer was January 2nd 2003 and my goal was to achieve ear length natural hair by April 2003 and I've reached my first goal.

Second goal, chin natural hair by July 2003

Well my first goal didnt take long to get there. It took about 1year and a 1/2,my hair grows really fast, and quick. Im aiming for waistlength natural hair(with no chemicals) I hope to get there soon.

Only Child,
Yes, i wear protective styles. Usually braids or pinned up in a bun. Unfortunely, I only started doing that after Christmas. So I definetly suffered some breakage before that and i was exercising without knowing how to take care of my hair. but my hair is so thick naturally that it is hard to tell the breakage. I am just scared to let my stylist trim because she will cut all my hair off so i will do it myself. My hair grows fast and what i use to do is dust the ends off after some washes so it won't break. This worked great until i lost my scissors. I am going to trim my hair this week though. Btw, I usually wear my curly and twisted when i go out. i take one half of my hair and pin it up and let the curls and fall, and the other and half and twist it. I stopped using heat for the most part. This is what made the difference. My hair thickened a lot because of this I still do not have a regimin down. I am still experimenting, and i need to get some vitamins. Sorry for the long post

It took me a year to go from an inch above shoulder length to bra strap and thats with lotsa trims in between. Last year I was using wayyy too much heat. But I always wanted to see how long it was getting and i believed it being straight was the only way

My hair never grows. It's been at the same boring neck length for three years now. BUT I was getting my hair pressed every 2 weeks. So maybe that's why or maybe this is the longest it will get. But I'm happy for all of you who grew their hair long.

amazing growth!!!!
May I ask, What is your hair type? What is your routine?

I really started wanting waist length Jan 05. I was right above (like just touching it) bra-strap when I had my 1st touch-up this year, now I'm past. I hope to reach waist length before the goal date...we'll see what happens! I guess I usually get 1/2" a month, but on this last stretch of 12 weeks, I had 2 inches, which is 3/4" a month on average, or maybe I just had a growth spurt somewhere in there. I'm 4 weeks post tomorrow, and I have 1/2" already.

So it's the end of the year and I haven't accomplished the goal I was looking for. I can say that my hair is healthy (this time last year it was a wreck) and I have a good starting point. My problem is this, it seems like my hair isn't much longer than it was last year and I'm getting a bit discouraged about this here growing my hair thing. It's my 1st healthy hair anniversary and I don't know if I should give up because I haven't gotten far. Is this normal?? am I doing something wrong?

For some of the ladies, including me, they said their hair started looking and getting healthier before the length started showing. It may thicken up, get shinier, feel and look prettier - it's like a stage it goes through for some of us, then it starts growing down. The key is always keeping the hair and especially the ends moisturized so the length shows.
