Ladies, I was so excited to end my 12 week stretch, but not like this. My mom, (bless her heart) did my touch up as usual. The application and smoothing process has never taken her less than 40 minutes (it has never been an issue.) But today I have no idea what went wrong.

I used a different relaxer (ORS lye) but...
I had reversion from the last relaxer that I chose not to correct and
I did a horrble job of detangling so
my mom had to rake through my hair old school. Of course it caused plenty of breakage and a little bit aggravation to my scalp.

Here we are now: Only half of my ng is straight. I have straight roots, half inch of curl, and the rest of the strand is straight! How is this possible??? I'm guessing that there wasn't enough smoothing. But how is it even corrected?

Not to mention that I had plenty of breakage from the relaxer. I'm scared that by next sunday plenty more might make it's way to the floor.
What would you ladies do?

I'm sitting under the dryer appreciating te thickness of my hair. If it wasn't for that I'd be completely devastated....
Any words of encouragement? Tips, Ideas?

I'd do a protein treatment and wait another three to four weeks to attempt a corrective. This time, that should be done by a professional.
Until then, protein treat, DC, and protective style. YOu don't want to manipulate your hair too much during this time and you should be fine.

I've done correctives before with success.

I am sorry that this has happened I dont really know what to tell you. Also I am afraid that if you have not been to a stylist in a long time or dont have a relationship with a stylist that knows your hair you dont want your first visit with a new stylist to be one in which she/he will be putting chemicles in your hair. I think that would be another venting thread.

I am sorry I hope someone can come in and help you out.

I've got some textured hair in between straight hair. I don't have much issue with it because the texture straightens when I rollerset. I think you'll have to focus more on the breakage. You probably want to monitor the breakage to determine if its the after relaxer shedding/breakage that happens when we're manipulating hair that's been dormant under buns and protective styles.

Pay close attention to your hair once it's dry and after your next wash to see if the breakage has slowed any. That's when you can decide which actions you should take to address the issue directly. Let us know...

You may want to correct it. My sis did my perm with ORS lye. That was my first time using it and it left my hair severely under processed. I used ORS No lye and corrected it on my next relaxer which was 12 weeks later. I did my perm like I regularly do, and then at the end put it on the under processed parts. My hair is doing just fine.

ORS Lye is the Devil!!!! Go to a professional for a corrective. I plan to use a professional for relaxers from now on.

Thanks guys. Do I need to see a stylist in 4 weeks? Can I do my regular 12 week stretch before I go to a professional? I'm going to refrain from manipulation until my next weekly DC. I'm hella scared.
Btw I do have a stylist who is excellent but costly (130 is not bad but it's wack during a recession). Can they fix a mess like this?
As far as my hair being underprocessed it's kinda weird. 1 inch of roots is straight the other inch is wavy. It seemed to have processed fine, but was not smoothed all the way :(

I don't think you should try to do your normal stretch. I think you should go in 4 weeks. Deep condition to prevent additional breakage and then let a professional you trust correct the damage. Leaving the hair under processed and damaged will just lead to more breakage. I think that if you wait the full 12 weeks most stylists will look at your uneven head of hair and just start cutting.

$130 seems like a bit much for a touch up but if you trust the woman to not scalp you and actually correct the problem then I think that's your best bet. Letting a new person give you a chemical service is a no no :nono:. That's not an option.

I don't have any experience with ORS so I don't know if the relaxer is the problem but I suspect the issue is that you didn't properly prep your hair by detangling.
