The hair models on the relaxer boxes and on the other products we buy is that there hair or weave or what this is a question I had for a long long time when I was younger I use to think if I used that product my hair would look that yeah right it takes more then that LOL

i just know one person and she was on the motion box. that was her real hair.

there's on other person:
Latavia from Destiny's Child (kicked out) was on soft and beautiful (kiddy perm)....looked like her to me.

My best friend used to be one. She actually posts on the board, I'll tell her to come chime in but I can tell you that she has 2B hair. She told me some of the stuff they used to do and it sounded shady to me.

For the most part, I think it's their real hair, but the product alone didn't give them the look they have on the box.

There are a LOT of people on this forum who could be hair models. On the Avalon website, they have this disclaimer: NONE OF THEIR MODELS WEAR HAIRPIECES.

And we know it's absolutely false (he can keep lying if he wants). The avalon people murdered my buddy's hair, who is a model. They permanently dyed her hair 7 times in one day and added pieces. She lost a lot of hair. To my knowledge, She signed an agreement saying that she couldn't sue.

I've had the photoshop program for years so I don't believe much that I see. It's really sad that on some hair product boxes that the models are obviously wearing weaves. They do it to enhance the look (what I call "lying" but oh well). Mascara wearers do the same thing also.

As a clueless kid, I used to think that relaxers were for growing hair not staightening it since the only women that were on the box covers back then were long-haired ladies. I used to beg my mom for a relaxer as a kid and she'd yell at me for wanting one. I wondered why so was so mean, and didn't want me to have long ahir. Hehe, now I know why she wouldn't let my naive six year-old self use the relaxer!!:lachen:

I remember when I was in college, one of those companies came to our campus looking for a new hair model and a lot of girls were lined up to try out for it. They wanted someone who ALREADY had thick, long hair. The girl they picked had BEAUTIFUL, thick, relaxed hair that was just past shoulder-length. They gave her money and a year (?)'s supply of their products. Basically, for the duration of her contract with them, she could have and use all of their products. At least, with her, I knew it was her real hair.

i12sitomyhair...girl, who cares about those damn hair models or your friend...I am too busy looking at your hair and new body in your siggy pic...DAMN!

I need your regimen and your diet!

my friend modeled for a relaxer years ago and it was her hair. they did have it parted in the back with the hair pushed/pinned to the sides to make it look more "full" though. and her hair and makeup was done by professionals. so don't feel bad if you can't get the exact "just left the salon" look. those are professionals at work

I used to think the picture on the relaxer box was how the relaxer was supposed to make your hair look, with no styling/extra products involved!
When my hair was still frizzy after relaxing, I thought I must have done it wrong and it was underprocessed so I'd go over it again the next time
It never did look like the model on the box :perplexed
(Ironically, I could probably make my hair look more like the 'box models' now I've stopped relaxing. With a good flat iron, some coconut oil and hair serum!)

GIRLLLLLLLL I used to think the same thing. Don't feel bad, I was more like 12 or 13 when I asked my mom for a relaxer because I wanted long hair. It made sense at the time, the women on the boxes had long hair and so did my mom (at the time she had one). Thankfully, I didn't get a relaxer until college, cuz I would have jacked my hair up!

I did some advertising work for Soft Sheen Carson before and I know that their models have to go to one of the Soft Sheen stylist to get their hair evaluated and it has to be healthy in order for them to get booked. Also, keep in mind that it's very easy to manipulate and enhance pictures using Photoshop.

I thought i used that specific relaxer my hair would look like that too. i know i know. naive right? sometimes i think it's their hair other times i don't think so.

What about Beautiful from Flava of Luv? Was that her real hair on the show? She is on a hair model now. Can't remember the brand.

She models for the Doo Grow relaxers. I think it was her real hair on the show and a weave on the box, but that's just me.

This is such an adorable story:p

Some are real and some may be weave. I walked in the BS the other day and saw a big poster for a relaxer (brand shall remain nameless) and of the three girls that were on the poster, 2 of them had weaves. How do I know? I used to go to their mother to get my hair done. She does hair in her basement and her 3 daughters help her. They are real good and have been doing hair since they were teenagers (although I pefer the mother to do mine). When I first started, you could get a sew-in for $35 (you provide the hair). To make matters worse, the daughters who were on the poster have synthetic weaves at that...uber shiny and interlocked.

A 2B wouldn't need a relaxer. I bet she never used the products. A good blowdry would get her silky straight. That is misleading.

My gut feel about this subject is supported by Anky's statemens.

Actually, no hair type needs a relaxer. However, I personally know of someone who has type 2 hair and has a relaxer because she has super thick hair. Her hair is not relaxed bone straight, but a relaxer makes it much more manageable.

I think most of the hair models it is their real hair, and I also think a lot of the time they are NOT using the products listed.
I modeled hair briefly back in college and it was more about them liking my hair, (paying me) and not about me using the products. I was never on a relaxer box tho.

Actually, them making that statement made me even MORE suspecious that the models wore weaves!:p

these companies would put a spray-tanned barbie with dyed black hair on a relaxer box if they thought people we would be dumb enough to buy it.
