I am no expert, but I don't think it should be a problem to use cassia/henna on your edges. When I was growing my edges back (now damaged again due to a bad cornrown session) I used henna on them...they grew in nicely...I am back to trying to grow them out.
I think cassia would help a great deal if your edges are thin due to breakage and damage. It strengthens hair. I use it often, and I find that my hair feels more resilient when I do.
