Hello I'm new and living in the Dallas TX area. Does anyone know of a good dermatologist to recommend if your hair is thinning and need to find out why?
Great Idea. Thanks for sharing that tip.Do you just want to know if your hair is thinning?.
I don't live in Houston so I can't recommend a dermatologist. However, if you just want someone to examine your scalp and make some basic recommendations AND you can sit thru a sales pitch without opening your wallet - try getting a free consultation at a local Hair Club (used to be called Hair Club for men). I went early in my hair journey, listened to what they had to say, got pictures of my scalp and left with a few ideas. THEN, I went to the dermatologist and researched things I could do on my own.
Just an idea.
Try Dr. Tonya Rodgers in Allen,TX. She is African American and helped with my alopecia.Do you just want to know if your hair is thinning?.

Wel they are not the best. But they are not very low either.@snootiepie - are you feeling well generally? how are your iron levels?
Okay. There's a difference? That, and not just iron, have your ferritin levels (how well your iron is stored) checked.
Most certainly will. Was yours just traction alopecia or female pattern baldness? I'm afraid I might have the latter.Try Dr. Tonya Rodgers in Allen,TX. She is African American and helped with my alopecia.

It was alopecia areata. Most of my hair has grown back in but it is much thinner than the rest of my hair. Most certainly will. Was yours just traction alopecia or female pattern baldness? I'm afraid I might have the latter.
Sorry. But good to hear it's grown back and you have some of it.It was alopecia areata. Most of my hair has grown back in but it is much thinner than the rest of my hair.
Good info!Yes. A "regular" iron test only test how much iron is in your system. A ferritin test tells you how much your body is absorbing. Your iron levels could be normal and ferritin can be low at the same time. Low ferritin, "iron stores" is just as bad as just plain low iron.
