Thinning a Wig

Does anyone know how to do this properly? Last night, I started pulling out & dusting off my wigs in preparation for the fall season (I am so tired of messing with my hair. Sooo veeerrry tired...). Anyway, I noticed that one was so fake-looking because it was just too bulky & long, so I cut it to about shoulder-length. Now it looks triangle-ish instead of soft & flowing around the face. If I thinned it, it would probably look more natural, so does anyone know how to do that? I was thinking of cutting out a few tracks, but I don't want to mess it up if there is some other way to it.

you need thinning scissors. they are scissors that have a comb like appearance. they will help you get the result you need. You have to put the wig on a form or on your head and use them. I can't really explain how to use them but I have used them and seen people use them as well. It helps so the cut is not so blunt espcially if you do not know how to cut layers. HTH

Thanks, Msnig. Now know what I was doing wrong with cutting the wig, though. I was trying to make layers by cutting horizontally, but figured out that it works to cut vertically at about a 50 degree angle (it's a curly/wavy wig). It looks way better now & I didn't even need to thin it.

I am glad you figured it out. I was at a loss trying to figure out how to explain it. I told my husband that I was getting a wig and he was like sure you are.... He'll see! I just don't know if I am going to be able to fit this hair under it. It is not as long as it use to be but it is still thick.
