Thinking of purchasing a caruso molecular steamer . . .

But I have a few questions -

How long does it generally take to use it? (Including time to put in the water, let it heat up, put in the rollers and take them out?) Is it something that can be done in the morning before work/school?

Do you need to use end papers or some other protection with the rollers? (The rollers themselves look a little "spongy" -- like those pink rollers you buy at the drugstore.) Has anyone had a problem with breakage?

What "model" do you recommend? I'm thinking of getting the travel one because it's smaller and cheaper. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much guys!

The water heats up and starts steaming almost immediately (60 econds tops). It takes me about 10 minutes to put the rollers in then I take them out about 20 minutes later. So a total of approx. 30 minutes.
You can definitely use them before work/school.

I have always used the end papers because fear of breakage. So I do not know if just using the regular roller causes breakage.

I think the travel size would be fine.:)

Ditto to everything MissQue just said. Carusos are really convenient for me. The unit starts steaming almost immediately and is ready for use. It's definitely usable before work. I put my rollers in and finish getting ready and they're done. Beautiful curls. Go on and get you some, Glib Girl. You know you want to.

I used one for years, before I started wearing wraps and ponytails. They are very easy to use. I did not use end papers and never had a problem with breakage then either.

I would sit down to my vanity, turn the unit on, then set my rollers out on the vanity top. By that time the unit was steaming so I could roll up my hair. Then I would put on my makeup. But the time I did that the rollers were cool. They were taken out in the same order I put them in. I had no problems and great long-lasting curls all day.

I just bought one today :D I also bought an extra set of 6 jumbo rollers to go with. Man...where has this been my whole life?!? I had to try it out as soon as I got home, and all I can say is wow! The curls were nice, soft and bouncy. I will be using this often, starting tomorrow morning for work.

Whichever model you decided on be prepared to buy another one in 2-3 years. I've replaced mine 3X.

Thank you for asking this! I'm interested in finding out more about them since a lot of LHCFers swear by them. Does the molecular steamer come with the rollers? Do you use them on wet or dry hair?

Thanks in advance!

I just found one for $3.00 at The Local Goodwill. It looks hardly used and I will maybe buy new sponge rollers and disenfect with bleach.

I bought one a month or so ago...and I love it...if you airdry its great to give your hair some curl...and the curl lasts a couple of days in my hair...more if you roll your hair at nite. Like everyone has said so far its really quick and easy to use, and the hair is soft, shiny, and full of body...I have not used end papers and haven't experienced any breakage as well.

Is the steamer good for hair, better than you heat from a iron?

yep, cuz steam is moisture, not heat. A flat iron is just plain old heat

Is there a version for natural hair? Or would I just use this when my hair is straightened?
