Well i resently looked in the mirror i have a three sided mirror and i bent my head to the side and i looked at my crown and i can see my scalp. I dont know if its because of MLB, or because my hair stands kind of straight up in zig zags because its not curly at all, or because i accidently trimmed it kind of short back there. Or maybe because of my seborrheic dermatitis. Help me someone it will kill me to lose my hair. Especially in high school

Did you mean MPB as in male pattern baldness? If so, the only "cures" I know of are thing like Rogaine and Minoxidil (sp?). But you have to keep using them forever.

I hope you're mistaken. I know how much you want your hair to grow.

You're right that Rogaine and Minoxidil are addictive. If you stop using them, you lose whatever hair you had grown from using them - which by the way, is never as thick as your own hair, but still (some could argue) it's better than none.

Hun, the only thing I can suggest is you try the suggestions on that website I once posted, www.add-hair.com. The methods suggested are natural and echo a lot of the suggestions people have shared on this board.

Since you have sebhorric dermatitis, you may not want to apply anything to your scalp and leave it on since it's already oily. So perhaps you could use any of the suggested scalp "leave-ins" as pre-shampoo treatments. Even overnight if they don't make you itch too much. I am not a fan of cortisones (which you may have had prescribed before) because they are habit forming. I used to depend on them for eczema et al per doctor's prescription, until I discovered "nutritional healing" and solved my skin rash problem completely -- Something cortisones had not been able to do. Don't get me wrong, they do give some relief alright (for me this was temporary), but should it return, you'll need more of the medicine to see the same results. And I believe they don't do your immune system any good. But that's just how steroids are.

I have heard that emu oil is a good hair growth promoter. The website I mentioned above has something about it. Now if I were you, because I am averse to applying things on my scalp and leaving them there, I would try out the emu oil shampoo and emu oil conditioner. Even the brief time it's on your head might make a difference. I do know that it's recommended for people with dandruff or itchy scalps, so I would imagine it'd be safe to use with your SD. Check out this website for emu oil hair products that I would try if I had your problem. Also have a look at "Nutritional Healing" by the Balchs, it has something on sebhorrea and suggested supplements.

Yung, don't lose heart. You will find the solution to your hair. It just may take a little longer than you anticipated. And you may have to give up one goal for now (eg length or softness) to focus on another (your scalp problem) ie tackle one thing at a time. Then once you've mastered how to solve that one, you can focus on the others.

Do a search on the board for "DHT" or "hairloss" or "bald". You are bound to find out what solutions have worked for some people and probably some encouragement. Also I want to point out that the fact that your hair is straight in the area you're looking at may be part of the reason it looks like it's thinning. I know at one time when I had an overprocessed Jheri Curl that just hang straight/wavy instead of being curly and bouncy many years ago, it did look like I had less hair on my head.

Hi YuNg...
Something I think you should look into at this point is a zinc supplement and waseda's regimen for MPB.
Waseda's regimen was fairly complicated (it involved boiling a mix of starch, boric acid, and zinc oxide in water for 20 minutes and when cool the thick gritty combo was applied to balding spots.) but proved to work faster than rogaine and minoxidil (it reportedly took three-fifteen days for pores to open and fifteen days to three months for fuzzy hair to appear in the once bald areas)... the original composition can and has been modified (eg. boric acid replaced with ascorbic acid powder, zinc oxide powder replaced by Red Clover Rash Care Cream and other zinc-oxide-containing NAPPY RASH creams)...whodduthunk huh!? lol!
Anywayz, the simplest modification of his regimen is here in bottle 2 : Jojoba Oil - (as a Zn ion carrier instead of the acids) and about 20 - 30 crushed zinc tabs)

the strands aint becoming thinner i can just see my scalp. I have a derm appointment friday morning.

if i lose my hair now im going to kill myself. I've been trying to grow my hair out so desperately now it wants to go bald. I hate my life!!!

You're not going to kill yourself. You're gonna take the problem by the horns and tackle it...If all else fails, you will call Bosley Hair Restoration people and have a word with someone.

Yung, until you've tried some of the suggestions on this forum for your problems for a month, don't throw in the towel.

BTW, which are you currently trying? How long have you been doing it? Keep us posted, and try one thing at a time. Instead of focussing on the problem, get busy fixing it. Results don't come overnight, so be patient.

Hi, I hope exagerating about the killing yourself bit. It does hurt to lose your locks though...... Just to offer support DO NOT Stress. Thats only going to make it worse.

Hello YuNg:

How are you? You have your entire life in front you, to finish school and to look forward to University, and to be the most successful woman on the planet.

We as females have grown up to realize that our hair is our beauty; this is false interpretation that is passed down, your beauty is your spirit, your mind, and everything that musters you to consider yourself unique.

During this summer I went to the Derm for a scalp biopsy, and he confirmed that I do have Alopecia, I worshiped my hair in the past, and miss the long ringlets and all the compliments that I use to get. In 1999, I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer, and for two months I lived like a Cancer patient; once my tumor was removed I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. There is no cure for this disease, and being of the black race, it's rare for someone like me to have this chronic disease. I share my story with you, so you can understand that life is for the living.

I told my seven year old son, that at times life is suppose to be a straight line, and at times the straight line can get squiggley, and it's up to him to make the line straight again; to my surprise he understood; my advise to you is the same.

God Bless you with wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.

im not applying anything to my scalp because it makes my dermatitis worse so im relying on my vitamin regimen to help me.

What did your derm say?

http://hairmillion.com/hair-loss-1.html

I ran across this site while searching for unscented garlic hair products. I'm not recommending their products (I have never used them--and I don't know anyone who has used them...), but there is a lot of info on hair loss on the site that might help you out.

Don't lose faith. These ladies have given you excellent advice. In the past I have had bald spots from alopecia. I have also had such bad relaxer damage in the past that my scalp oozed & my hair was stuck to my scalp scabs. A few years ago my dermatitis was so bad that I would comb out quarter size flakes from my hair.

I know that it seems like the end of the world but you gotta chill out. Stress will do nothing but make your problem worse.

You are aready making great decisions to solve your hair problems, but solutions do not happen overnight. Often hair & skin health is a reflection of your own health. You are taking great suppliments. I know that you are still working on your hair regimne but how is your diet YuNg?
Do you drink plenty of water?
Do you eat fresh veggies and fruit or do you have a teen burger king diet?

YuNg I also live in the Kansas City area. I have a closet full of hair products that I have barely used. You can have all of my hair products if you want them. Just pm me.

Good luck and Relax...things do get better.

lol@teen burger king diet. Well i dont really eat healthy. I like certain fruit and i like corn but people say that isnt a vegetable. I like green beans depending on how they are cooked. But other than that i dont like vegetables. I love cabbage. I've been under lots of stress lately with my girlfriend's grandmother acting funny towards me and my hair has really stressed me out ever since the perms. I'd tried every anti thinning product i could get my hands on. I was on doo gro for months with no results. ORS Nioxin Profectiv, Etc. Doc said nothing was wrong with my scalp. Now they saying i might have MPB thats stressed me out more. Its bad enough people say i look like my grandfather with my afro I HATE THAT. thats why im trying to do something with my hair so people will stop saying i look like him. I cannot get my crown area to grow it remains about 1/4 an inch and gets shorter when i wake up in the morning. My hair doesnt shed alot and every product i use aggrivates my dermatitis. I do drink plenty of water though.
