hello ladies,

my temples are thin b/c of all the braiding I have done over the last couple years. Anywhoo, I heard stimulation helps the scalp, so would using a clean electric toothbrush work in stimulating the area or that's being excessive?

I think the electric toothbrush would be too rough on the temples.

The stimulation should increase blood flow not irritate the scalp so you best bet is to firmly hold your head/ scalp and manipulate (not rub) with your forefingers and thumb.

I just came with idea when I was looking at my temples. I have been messaging the area and it seems like the temples won't grow and I don't want to feel like their dead but it won't grow back! I'm so desperate that I thought this would be a good idea. Anyways thank you all responding before I made a huge mistake.

I would suggest no brushing and just kind of leaving them alone, except for just moisturizing that area and applying growth aids. No brushing or combing in that area. Your temples may be too tender from the micro braids and may need time to recover. For the first time, I found my temples were thinning recently during my healthy hair journey due to excessive combing and brushing. I just decided to leave them alone and that area is coming alone nicely. Sometimes less is more.

The same thing happened to me a few years ago (braids too tight). I started using ORS Temple Balm and DOOGRO Mega Thick anti-thinning grease. I would use the ORS every other day and the DG the other days. I was pleased to see that my hair actually started growing back!! Just be sure to follow the instructions for the ORS (I did exactly what they say to do as far a not using the product so many days before/after a chemical process. I hope this helps. the ORS is expensive, but it only takes a smidgen (tiny, tiny bit) and it will work over time. good luck

I think the best thing for thinning edges/temples is to stop the braids or whatever is putting tension in that area. I agree with Hair Supremacy. You can keep massaging it but reduce any pulling, brushing, and give it some time and it should grow back assuming the follicles arent dead. I wouldnt do the electric toothbrush.

I have reduced the tension around my temples but they don't look any better to me but again I'm just being impatient. I have some mtg but the smell put me off. Thank you all for the responses to my question.

You could probably use the toothbrush but turn it around. Like use the back of the brush. You should still get the stimulation from the brush w/out the bristles if that makes sense.

use your fingers don't rub but massage where as your scalp is moving and your not rubbing the scalp causing friction. I hope that makes sense.
BT+MN and essential oils has helped me tremendously.

the ors temple balm, has a soft bristle toothbrush and a baking soda like paste that you use to stimulate that area. I use a soft bristle toothbrush and clean my entire scalp with a baking soda conditioner mix. then I follow up with moisture. it's gentle, and seems to be working for me.

I agree with the majority... just use your fingers... I can see the electric toothbrush pulling at your edges and you don't want that...
