The Yeast connection....

Is there something to cleanse the system of candida? I am a type 2 diabetic. I've always felt that the insane desire for sugar was so out of my control. If it is true about the B vitamins then that would explain the tendency toward anxiety and skin problems.

I'm off to work. I can't wait to check this in the AM.

Olive leaf extract is an antiviral, anti fungal supplement that aides in yeast removal. When I exerience an infection, this stuff does the trick.

Also like nonie said a high alkaline diet meaning no meats, no most grains, and absolutely no soda and processed foods.

I love to drink water with lemon, and I love the fact that it keeps my body in an alkaline state

I'm confused. So problems with yeast cause you to be addicted to sugar or addictions to sugar cause problems with yeast?

Yeast overgrowth is caused by a high sugar/carb intake. The reason why some individuals crave sugar/carbs all the time is because your brain requires glucose to function for energy reasons. Your brain is sending signals like "Hey im hungry, I NEED SUGAR". For those who only consume alkaline foods they notice a decrease in sugar cravings, because veg/fruit are alkaline but they are also carb containing foods.

The same as if your brain letting you know your dehydrated hence thirst

Also I read that yeast can cause dandruff --> folliculitis ---> hair loss

The yeast that lives in the oil glands and on the scalp in fact actually eats the oil. THIS IS IT’S FOOD! The oil is therefore, not there to lubricate the hair and scalp. The decrease or absence of oil causes dryness and flaking. Dryness by itself can cause itching. The presence of the yeast in large numbers can also cause considerable inflammation, which is another cause of itching. Thus, a person with dandruff may itch for two different lesions, dryness and inflammation. If itching is severe, subsequent scratching can cause breakage of the skin and with resultant bleeding, and sometimes, infection as well. This inflammation and infection may even cause temporary, patchy hair loss. These episodes may lead to a condition called folliculitis. Chronic folliculitis can cost permanent hair loss.

I will have to subscribe and check this out when I have time. I am thoroughly confused right about now.
Very informative topic.

You guys should watch "Sugar the Bitter Truth" on youtube.

I have learned a lot this year about sugar glucose and fructose making you inselin resistant and that can lead to your body producing the wrong amount or type of hormones. Not to mention gluten sensitivities keeping you from obsorbing nutrients and causing all kinds of thyroid trouble.

But back to sugar, the only way you should be taking it is is when paired with fiber like in fruit, aparently the fiber helps release the sugar slower and helps it pass through faster. Oh and I mean naturally accoring esp. when you already have an over growth. Anyone interested should check out undergroundwellness on youtube. It is really interesting how many problems go back to sugar. Sorry about the rant and the spelling, I'm typing on my phone. :)

Very informative. Will check into it - unfortunately I love and eat a lot of sweets! I'm probably in the "faint of heart" category. Hey - can I still chew sugarless gum?!

When I found out I had it (self diagnoses in 2007 bought on by stress/poor eating habits/antibiotics. It would surprise me if Anti inflammatory pills was in the equation) I took Dida tablets, bought and used Beat Candida cookbook and noticed a massive difference in how I was feeling in 2 weeks. I had to stop after 2-3 months as it was expensive.

I can differently see the connection between Candida and Vitamin B Complex. Since stepping up my Vit B intake, I noticed that my Candida doesn't flare up as much and my sore scalp/shedding slows down and/or stops. And, when it does (I have a bad sweet tooth also, some alcohol drinks set it off) , I take couple of Golden Seal tablets. for a few days. Also, oral Probiotics help as well.

Ladies mby way of update earlier this year i did an elimination diet for a few weeks, my hair grew in nice and beautifully, i lost a ton of weight and my skin was glowing. Since then i have fallen off the wagon. I have diabetes in my family so i am now looking for long term soloutions and have decided to permanmently be on low GL diet.

^^^ whats the elimination diet

I believe it's a diet that eliminates foods that might be causing you issues. Like how diabetics avoid sugar laden foods (That's an elimination diet), or People with celiac disease avoid gluten (That's another elimination diet).

When you have systemic yeast infection (systemic candidiasis) part of the treatment involves eliminating foods that feed the fungus from your diet.

Really check out the links posted earlier in this thread because they go into more detail. When fighting Candida Albicans, you cannot be lukewarm about it or you will lose and just give it more clout to abuse your body. It's not an easy battle to go into so arming yourself with a lot of info (eg as shared on this site: WholeApproach.com - Natural Candida Treatment - Systemic Yeast Infection and Candida Diet Recipes, Forums and Products) is the best way to start. The book I recommended earlier is an indispensable weapon to have on hand.

Xylitol (a sugar substitute) is supposed to be "safer" than other sugars when fighting this battle. But if you can just start using less sweetener in your meals each time, you'll be surprised how normal food w/o sugar will start to taste over time.
