THE WAY TO SLEEK SILKY HAIR

At my last retouch my hairdresser straightened my hair using a round brush and blow-dryer, it looked quite nice but it had too much body with very little shine (even though she did use keracare silken seal)

. After returning home a few hours later, I examined some of my hair strands and they still had lots of little kinks, which I was disappointed with

, I hoped achieve a bone straight look, like my hairdresser did previously when I had a hair cut

. I would like to know what products could be used to obtain a sleek silky look (not flat and greasy)? Also should I have my hair rollerset then flat ironed instead of using the round brush? Its not doing my hair ends any justice

Hey den1! Good to "see" you again. Roller sets work for me to get intense shine without ruining the body. The lack of direct heat is also a plus.

Thanx Dahomey, I'm not worried about the body because my hair thick, i'm still unsure whether just rollerset would give me a bone straight look as well as the intense shine.

I am not sure, but i would like to know too. For my last retouch, i had the dominican blowout done and then left with my hair in a wrap. The next day my hair was unbelievably silky, soft, smooth. It was so gorgeous! I looked like I belonged in a hair commercial. I seriously looked like I could have been a doll. (Okay, not too brag! Just being honest...LOL) But, although my hair wasn't really dull or anything, I felt like it wasn't the shinest that it could be. So, I was thinking that maybe next time I should do a rinse or a semi-permanent color? The only problem with this is that I don't trust them to put a color in my hair b/c I don't like the colors that they use for their own hair.

Yes and no

I have less shrinkage, i can choose to wear it straight/curly/afro. My hair is not as strong or soft and doesn't hold moisture as well as it did when i was natural. My only regret is making the mistake in choosing the wrong hairdresser who caused me to lose so much length after my corrective in Feb

, . Despite this setback, my hair is healthy and i should be a little above waistlength by dec 2004 as i have a good regime that I used when i was natural (it really helped me to my goal in a matter of months without having to wait years to achieve.

Lovelylocs that's a great idea, but i really wouldn't want to use another chemical over my hair, could i use henna colour instead to help enhance the shine. Next time i see my hairdresser i'll ask her to wrap my hair after she straightening.

Hi Den1, in regards to your question, what type of brush did your stylist use? did it look like this: http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/product.asp?dept%5Fid=1720&pf%5Fid=333835 if it didn't then I would suggest trying a brush like the one in the link. It shouldn't be damaging as long as you rollerset your hair first and then do the blow-out after. Also, something that I learned recently is to use as minimal product to leave-in your hair after you are finished washing and conditioning. That way your hair doesn't become weighed down or greasy HTH

No she didn't use the one like in the photo. I'm afraid to say that my hairdresser didn't rollerset she just used the brush and blowdrier

I'm really worried now I hope my hair strands aren't damaged

Kadeshia does'nt use much product in the hair, but my hair still comes out with too much body and not enough straightness.

I start off with a good clarifying shampoo to remove any build-up that may be on my hair / scalp (naturally oily scalp). Afterwards, a moisturizing conditioner (left on my hair for 3 to 5 minutes with no heat). Then a roller set with a creamy / thick leave-in conditioner. I don't use setting lotions). After my hair is dry (make sure it's dry because I know you have thick hair too), remove the rollers. Add a few drops of serum (yes, only a few drops) to my hair. Then wrap my hair around and around. Go back under hooded dryer for 10 to 15 minutes. When I comb my hair down, it's silky and smooth (aka sleek).

However, I must admit, when I go to a Dominican salon, they do an even better job than me.

I agree with Allandra's method. Just a little serum once your hair is dry...works great. Make sure you start dring your hair when it's wet, don't let it partially air dry and then use heat to finish. This is a biggie from what I understand in keeping it shiny. Have you tried or though about using a couloushine treatment (Sebastian's, clear). That way you won't have to add additional products to your hair

HI girl, you know i've never thought about using colourshine, does it contain chemicals? btw where can i purchase this from.

Colourshines is a deposit-only, no damage way to color hair. It won't lighten hair at all. Usually salons carry it, a bss or you can try ordering online.

Den, I have been following your progress for years! your hair grows so fast what products (vitamins) do you use? When I saw your pics on growafrohairlong.com it seemed as if your hair grew from just above bra strap to waistlenght in like a year or less. Tell me your secrets girl!

Hey den1, if you have any problems locating a bottle, I'll be glad to sell you mine. I got it below retail price at a professionals only store but have yet to use it (so many products, so little time), so it's brand new and clear.I'll be able to go to that store again in a few weeks as well, so PM me if you want.
As said, it's deposit only. I've used it many many moons ago (when it was just called Cellophanes) and loved thwe shine it imparted. My hair, at the time, was incredibly thick and healthy, but it just wouldn't shine unless I put alot of product on my hair. I was introducted to this line of product and hesitant, as I thought it was just an overpriced version of Jazzing. BUT, I was impressed. I've read that it helps if you do intensely moisturizing treatments prior to using it becuase it kinda "seals" the hair (thereby sealing all that moisture in).

Den, I can relate to you. My hair is hypersensitive to humidity. It always starts to frizz after a few hours of being styled. That is one reason I decided to stop relaxing it. None of the frizz reducing products I've tried have worked. When I had a relaxer people would think my was natural. I hope you find something that works.

Thanks for your empathy Queenie, I will try using very little product, flat-iron or wrap the hair after rollersetting.
