This is an excellent article written by Cassia of skinbiology.com who has relaxed hair. You'll read some very important information, how-to's and advice about using relaxers and I highly recommend reading and sharing this link with others you know who are relaxed.

You're welcome ladies. I also want to mention I spoke with Cassia about an hour ago and decided to order the Folligen lotion for my scalp, mainly to keep it healthy since I use a relaxer. I'll be using this after my upcoming retouch. Cassia recommends the Folligen lotion (which also comes in a cream or spray) because it's consistency makes it easier to apply and said when applied to the scalp it increases the hair follicle size and makes the follicles and hair stronger, promoting hair health. It keeps scalp in the best condtion. She is very nice and has a lot of valuable information to share. She and her hair look beautiful also, as you can see. I told her all about LHCF.

The key sentence in the article was this one: These are just some of the complaints from many who experience problems due to the misuse of chemical hair relaxers.

It's the misuse of relaxers that has caused trouble for hair.

i beg to differ poohbear, the article also states that relaxers strip the hair and make it more susceptible to damage. So in reality, relaxers straighten the hair by breaking it down and damage is lessened by proper care.

Yes, the guy who invented the first relaxer experimented on the dog in 1910 and then on his own head. It was not until more recent years that animal testing became unacceptable for most people.

I recently read a book on animal testing (it was written in the seventies) and they had these bunnies in some type of conveyor belt with their heads in a container so they couldnt move. I was crying the entire day. I felt so bad

I'd rather be tested on products than the defenseless animals.

Thanks Isis. Cassia's site has other info besides relaxers that I'm enjoying reading.

I worked for a pharm company a few years ago and these animals live better and eat better than most humans.

Ditto!

This part really struck a chord:

"This process which produces the desired effect of “straighter” hair at the same time leaves hair weak and extremely susceptible to breaking and further damage. One must keep in mind that relaxers do not help the hair, but actually strip it. So by applying chemicals to the hair, even if it is to achieve a desired effect, is never really to the benefit of your hair health".
