..okay ladies, I've have to let you in on a little secret. For a few days I've gone around feeling and comparing the condition of the hair of my friends, co-workers, and family members. At my aunts house the 6 of us ended up feeling each other’s hair *lol* I have made a few startling discoveries thus far. ONE being that the health and condition of ones hair is relative. It is totally depended upon what you are used to. Another thing that stood out is 2 individuals with the same stylist (one has gone to her for 20, the other for 5 years) had hair so healthy; that it now makes me think my hair is damaged. I say this because they have naturally kinky (dont know how else to describe) hair and it felt like silk! I put a call in to their stylist. I am going to continue to do this for a while until I come up with so amateur stats. Has anyone else ever gone around feeling hair (with permission of course) and asking questions?

No, I've never went around feeling hair for analysis but your findings are quite interesting... However, sometimes, you can't judge the health of someone's hair simply by the way it feels, because the health of hair could easily be disguised w. the use of silicones.

I have only felt a few close friends' hair and my Mom's. They all have nice, soft and most of the time, silky hair. My hair is the longest, but usually *looks* the most crashed because I air-dry all the time and never use heat unless it's for something special. So, I go through my little moments of thinking "Oh no, is it damaged?" But, it never is, it's just that air-dried hair just looks straight up ugly. At least mine does anyway. But, I really don't care, because I am past bra-strap and very healthy.

Well most folks have been relaxed and wearing prepared (not air dried) hair styles. It was just interesting to feel. Some hair actually came off in my hands, and other had noticiable broken strands. It was just intersting is all. I am not making blanket statements here, just observing /images/graemlins/smile.gif

No, I haven't, but I'd like too. It may just be the porducts they use. My friend who does hair says Mizani makes hair pretty silky.

They both get touch-ups from the same stylist every 6+ weeks or so, and her freind goes every two weeks for styling. As it turns out, they both have Affirm relaxers (but so did others), but they werent sure of the strengths and so on. Both use the maintenance products as well. The only thing my aunt uses outside the Affirm line is the KeraCare glossifer. I liked what I saw and felt. Several others had Affirm relaxers and their hair didnt feel the same. What does that mean??? I dont know ...

It could just be their hair type. My hair is very soft, even when it feels dry to me, it's softer than other people that have my hair type. And I know other people who have healthy hair that never feels soft to me, and never close to mine. But it's the intrinsic nature of their hair.

I agree I know people with shiny thick healthy looking hair but it's very course and when you feel it, it feels sort of wiry cause the strands are so thick...never soft. My hair is so fine, it feels soft when it's dry, damaged, etc...however, it usually doesn't look good when it is in that state.

I want to touch some hair and see what I come up with!!!

Go for it! I am enjoying my little experiment /images/graemlins/smile.gif BTW, I am a former stylist and I taught hair, so I am NOT (and I use the term loosley) completely crazy /images/graemlins/fishslap.gif, *lol*

I knew you were going to say that! /images/graemlins/lachen70.gif
