The sour cream treatment reduced shrinkage by 50%

So I was really curious about the sour cream and lime treatment I read about in littlegoldenlamb's blog. I decided to try it on my 4a hair yesterday. I didn't have any limes, though, so I used a tablespoon or two of vinegar. I just mixed it up and smoothed it on and let it sit for an hour. I didn't have any problems with dripping or running... I even took a litte cat nap. lol

It surprised me that when I rinsed my DC, my hair did not shrink nearly as much as before. My hair still looked like my own texture, it just seemed so much bigger and longer. It didn't shrink to my head and look like a twa until stretched. I'm happy with the result. I purposefully let my hair dry without product under my turbie towel and tangling still was pretty easy once I added my leave in. My hair is very soft and moisturized but strong. I love what the blend of ayurveda, protein and moisture has done for my hair.

For you, Patricia, my hair is a 10 today. A 10, gurl! :)

Can i ask what is sour cream and lime treatment? And how often do you use this. I have about 7 inches of coils and they always shrink up to about 2 inches:sad:.

Sure! The sour cream and lime treatment is just organic sour cream, limes and maybe a touch of oil (optional) mixed and spread throughout the hair like a relaxer. Cover and leave on for 30 minutes to an hour. I think it's the acid that causes the curls to relax some. Also provides a nice protein treatment.

Littegoldenlamb has a great review that goes into depth here: http://littlegoldenlamb.blogspot.com/2009/02/sour-cream.html

Naturalgurl and Lucky'smom have great results, as well. Hopefully they'll stop in.

Here's a link to one of Naturalgurl's posts. You can see her pikistrip and go to her fotki through her profile. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=244773#13

You're so welcome! Here's a story I found so encouraging: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=167391#5

You have to see the progression in adw425's hair in her photo bucket. It got so much silkier over time. She has been my inspiration to achieve more hang time and keep my curls.

It sounds similar to the coconut cream and lime mixture that is used for the same purpose. Has anyone tried both of these methods and could compare the results?

Hey there, Yamilee. A couple folks tried them both here: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/for...hp?t=244773

and spoke of their results. Naturalgurl used to use the coconut milk fat/oranges but now has switched to the sour cream/lemons, I think. I think the consensus, overall, is that the sour cream is the "strongest" but that they all work over time.

adw425 used just a few tablespoons full fat yogurt and some buttermilk in her conditioner over time and experienced less shrinkage (70% - 80%), no knots, easier detangling and, from looking at her photo bucket, silkier (more reflectant of light) hair over time.

I clicked on this thread and saw my name and it cheered me up so as I have been down all day. I don't have anything significant to add. I have yogurt in my hair right this minute (smile). I love it...Anyway, good luck everyone on your experimentation with sour cream, yogurt, coconut cream, etc. It is great!

I might try this on my hair this weekend. I tried the coconut milk treatment but it didn't make my hair any different.

Aw man, I see this post when I'm braided up. LOl. I will have to give this a try when I take them down. I already love the coconut cream treatment, I can't wait to try this one!
