I try to use a brush as little as possible, but sometimes when I'm in a rush I use my boar bristle brush to smooth the top. I need to stop though. Also, I just bought the Denman D3 brush. Much better than a wide tooth comb at detangling for me!

yeah i heard of that brush...is it safe to use on wet hair too? because b4 i stopped using it, my brush was my best friend it was the perfect detangler for my hair.

I use the plastic brush that stylists use to wrap hair with. One day I broke my brush while brushing my hair, lol, and I never bought a new one. I think that longer your hair is the easier it is to get along without a bristle brush. Now when you have short hair that is a different story.

I use a brush every now and then to smooth my hair into a style or on my edges. I don't brush from roots to ends.

Same here, I just dont want more hair coming out than necessary.

ayeshia, yes it is actually best used on wet hair. I use it for detangling in the shower, with my hair covered in conditioner.

BEST TO USE ON WET HAIR ?
Isn't a brush not to be used ( for purposes other than smoothing) NUMBER ONE and NUMBER TWO , isn't your hair it's weakest when it is wet ????

So wouldn't the two just like mess up your hair

nekee, the hair is weakest when wet you're right about that. I would never use a boar-bristle type brush on wet hair. Those types of brushes are used for smoothing.

This particular brush, however is more for detangling. Detangling is best done on wet, conditioner-filled hair. The bristles look like this:

I don't brush my hair but it's because I've noticed my breakage happens when I do. I've beeen getting the same success with a fine tooth seamless bone comb!

I'm the complete opposite, I use a brush once a day to put my hair into style and I never use a comb. I dont even think I own a comb :|

i actually have a brush that my mother bought in the mid '90's for around fifty dollars. (shes a hair dresser an that brush is still in perfect shape an I get amazing results from it). im not sure what kind it is but i love it. the bristles are low like a boar bristle brush, but the the bristles are fine and plastic. I also use an isnis boar bristle brush an a an isnis detangling brush. Those are the 3 I use most often.

I bought a Denman styling brush today and I like it. I tried the no brush thing for a week, but I am not ready to give up my brush...I will use it less often though.

I don't have a Denman, but I do have a very good knock off that I also find to be much more detangling than wide tooth combs (even my shower comb, which works wonders). I would definitely suggest this for naturals especially. The shape of the kinks/curls is gorgeous when I use this type of brush to detangle

The best thing about these brushes is that the teeth are gentle and flexible so they give instead of snatching through your hair. Also, there are no tiny 'balls' at the end of the bristles.

I got rid of all my brushes. I still wrap my hair at night w/o a brush and my wraps come out good.

I don't remember the last time that I've brushed my hair, I don't even think I own a brush anymore. I use my wide tooth comb all the time. I don't wear ponytails so my hairstyle doesn't require brushing at all.

DSD, yes that is the only place I have seen them. They are also $1 off right now.

Thanks SoulChild! I am loving that dollar off. I may be making a trip there this weekend.

I haven't owned a brush in a long time. I always use wide toothed combs and my new seamless bone comb just came in the mail today from tenderheaded.com!
