The Dutchbraids On Shorter Hair - Is It Possible?

I see so many videos like this:

Quite a few YTers grew out their hair with this simple style. This style can also be made into a crown by wrapping the braids around in the back. I only see this style done on longer hair, and I keep trying to do it but I can't! I can't grab my shorter hairs, the length of my hair doesn't just lay down like hers does, it just doesn't work. I want to try using this style so bad since it looks elegant, I hate multiple braids, and it's really the only protective style I'd ever consider outside of my buns (which lead to snatched edges).

Does anyone ever braid their hair like this (shoulder length hair or shorter)? Or do I have to grow my hair out more before I can grow my hair out more? :(

Your hair is longer than mine I think so you shouldn't have any problem. They can be done with hair with shorter hair like necklength and maybe shorter. Of. Purse you won't have hanging braids in the back unless you have long hair.

I have my hair in 2 braids now. It doesn't look like hers exactly since I'm a type 4 and she is a 3.

I’ve been having a hard time doing this style since I big chopped. The front is about to my lips. One tip I picked up was to make sure your ends are combed out. It helps the hair to not stick out of the braid and look messy. Makes a world of a difference for me.

Maybe I just need more practice. I try to do it on dampish hair, but I can't quite get the layers toward the top of my head into the braid when I do it towards my forehead like in the vid. I probably have to do it on wet hair so that my hair can lay down, but my fingers slip and slide everywhere. I guess practice - the four letter word - makes perfect.

@faithVA @BlessedXs2 do you do this style on wet, damp, or dry hair? Do you use heavy products?
I'e done it on all since I've worn this style since I was a teenager. It looks best on my hair when it' at least blow dried and it' the easiest. However my hair is usually damp or not stretched.

I don' use any special products. I do my regular loc that I do every wash day.

Yeah you just need to practice. You have plenty of hair to do it.

@sunflora 2 braids is a go to style for me. As soon as my hair gets neck length I will start wearing them again. I usually do it on blow dried hair because it looks a little neater to me. I also sometimes brush my hair forward and do a crown braid because these are just adorable to me. The first 2 pics are on blow dried hair. The last pic is on wet hair. Don't mind my big arse forehead. Lol

Eta: and my hair is just almost neck length in the first pic. A little past in the 2nd and 3rd pics. Definitely need to be at least neck length or longer for the crown braid.
