OK so I BC'd on Monday and I really like it. I have pics in my fotki,( sorry I don't know how to put pics on the my thread). So, I have curls in alot of places, but in certain areas my hair is just straight. I am wondering do you think it's a thing where my hair just needs to be trained or is my hair just two completely different textures. Also, for those of you with twa's or who've had them; what do you use to make it shine and define the curl. My hair looks moisturized but not shiny. Any suggestions?

congrats on your bc i love it.
you might have scab hair, a totally different texture, or heat damage in those straight areas

try cowashing with vo5 moisture milks, seal with avocado oil, baggy your hair at night to seal in moisture. i really dont use products to enhance my shine but u can try kemi oil this might give it some shine:yep:

i love it, esp the pic with the big earrings. congratulations!

i love to preach about how great it is to cowash and leave all the conditioner in...you get really soft and defined curls...ok i guess i have to add a disclaimer, some people dont like it but i know plenty who do. i do this everyday - well not now cause i am in kinky twists but you know what i mean. for shine i have done a few clear rinses; john frieda color glaze is my personal favorite, although i usually mix it with the brunette glaze and some DC for extra gloss. DCing can make sure your moisture levels are at their prime which may also help with curl definition. HTH...glad you like it cause i do too!

Congrats on your big chop!! :yep:

I had a few straight pieces at first and after a few weeks and washes, they curled up. Your hair could just be in shock from the cut, so give it a few days and hopefully it will curl like the rest. You look great.

Same here. My straight pieces eventually got curly. The only parts that didn't curl up were the strays that I didn't cut correctly. You also might have a different texture on that side, but just monitor it and see if it changes in the next few months. I thought I had scab hair in the front... 9 inches later it looked the same LOL I found out its just the way it grows.

Congratulations!!!!!!

Congrats!!! it looks great!!! i say trie sum leave in conditioner and ur hair may need to b trained

Congrats, it looks great! ..now tell me, before you did the BC, did you NG feel much drier under the perm pieces than it actually turned out to be once you did the BC?

I've recently heard about color glazes. I think I will do a dc today. I haven't done one since I cut it. If all my curls were defined I think it would help with the shine. Not to mention as short as it is I keep making it frizzy somehow. I saw in vluscious' fotki that she doesn't use a towel to dry her hair. That will probably help.

I'm not sure. I don't think it felt much drier, but then again, I was loading it down with my aloe/glycerin mix and cocnut oil. That's one reason I decided to cut it. My relaxed hair was weighed down with all that.

You have beautiful curly hair! Congrats on your BC and becoming natural. lol I can tell from looking at the timeline of your pics that you just said WTH and decided to go ahead and get it over with so it's smooth sailing here on out.

Oh yeah and thank you everybody for the compliments and support. I feel so special. So it can really take up to a month for curls to act right huh? Well, I'll nust try what's been suggested above and wait and see. Thanks to all.

Beautiful hair. Welcome to the nappy side. Your hair will change, it's going to take a few weeks. I can see some scab hair so I know your hair will change curl pattern and be more uniform. Don't worry.

And as far as shine, shine is artificial (for some), what you want and what you have is sheen. As long as your hair has sheen to it, it's perfectly healthy. Your hair looks good to me in those pics.

I was a TWA nap 5 years ago... I used two things one of which was Paul Mitchell's Foaming Pomade. It was ok, once my hair grew out, I stopped using it.

Lol. Yeah, you're right about that. Once I decided to be natural I wanted to be asap. I've never had a problem cutting my hair if that's what I really wanted. I know that it grows back. I must say though, I never would've imagined this, but the idea intrigued me and my dh was ok with it so....here I am.

Thanks. Oh yeah, what is scab hair?

I have some good news. I deep conditioned today and although I'm sure my hair is still straight in spots, I was able to achieve curls all over. I simply didn't towel my hair dry after cowashing. I also, like someone suggested, left some conditioner in. It looked great and I know I'm terrible but I didn't get a chance to take pics. It did look good though. Thank you all for your input and compliments.

I don't know how I missed this thread Marti, but your BC looks stunning on you!! Your curls are gorgeous, please enjoy your new look and each stage of your natural journey.

Aww thanks Honeycomb. I absolutely plan to enjoy every stage and length. Btw, I can't remember if I said so or not but I love your haircut. I also agree with you saying that you will probably miss your puff the most. That was beautiful. The great thing about hair is that it grows back.
