Can the hair on your front edges that used to be referred to as baby hair determine what your hair type may be? I am 7 weeks post and just ANXIOUS to see what my hair type will be. Right now I can feel my new growth and would normally get a perm about now but I'm trying to transition. I can't tell anything just from feeling :look:

No way. My hair line is a totally different texture. And you should know by now that a lot of naturals have a few textures in the hair.

For me, yeah, I have consistently the same texture. I think I have a little 3c/4a in the back. But my edges are definitely the same as the rest of my hair.

Well it depends on your hair type I think but when it comes to afro textured hair, the answer to this question would normally be no. my baby hairs are silky like type 2 or 3 nd the rest of my hair is 4a.

My baby hairs are either very fine, short and straight - these just lay there. Other baby hair is very fine and 4a but because it is so fine it appears silkier than the rest of my hair.

Not a good look :(

My baby hairs are a cute 3 something and curl up nicely with water alone

Now my ADULT hair is a 4a/b and has gotten into many a fight with a comb and won...

Patience is a virtue when in comes to natural hair :)

teehee .. if i had the hairtype of my baby hair all over ... i would look quite bald seeing as my baby hair is fineee and wispy

My edges are very fine (compared to the rest of my fine strands) and not full.. They are as coily as the rest of my new growth but they're softer and fluffier, I hope I'm making sense?

Hmm, is it a sign of a true 4b?...for me it is!

Yep, I think so. Even as a baby, I had a twa! See pic below..No baby hair in sight!

I had a whole head of baby hairs until I was about 4 years old :lachen: It was pretty bad. They were so thin and fine that I looked like I was balding or something, and everyone in my family made fun of me. My family nickname for me was "Four hairs" :( My entire head was all maybe 1B and if you held a single strand up to the light, you couldn't really see it. My hair started changing, and it was a completely different texture and type by the time I was 9. Except for my hairline at my forehead and side burns (yes, I have those). Those little guys stay the same length and density.

Me either...Anyone else in here that has never had baby hairs??

My "baby" hairs have always been full grown-living in they own place paying rent & utilities and old enough to drink. Ain't nothing ever been baby like about them :nono:. My perimeter is ~ 4a/b while the rest is in the type 3 range

Yeah, that's how i am too. It's so weird. I have a tiny bit of baby hairs, but it seems like it's tighter around my edges and very loose on my crown and very very loose in the back. Of course, i'm transitioning, so i will not know until i chop it off. But i know i have at least 3 textures going on. It's confused. lol I can't wait to see how it will look!

Wow, really?? I'm off to see if you have any pics! I think this type of hair is so hard to deal with. Not only is it very coily, but the color magnifies the kinks.

Okay, my son is also a red head (don't know where he got it from, out of 4 kids he is the only one with limited color, born with grey eyes and red hair and his blonde baby hair on the sides) His hair is kinda mixed around, but it does magnify the kinky areas and the straighter areas it lookes mixed up! he has straight hairs around the kinky hair.

pretty much. in the light I appear to have bald spots but the hair is just fine. I would not want a head full of that. :look::nono:
