I wouldn't but I won't fault the guy if rich celebrities will pay it. Dude's just gettin' his hustle on. I think he kind of knows it too from that first paragraph. He's like "I'm just a hairdresser (it ain't my fault people will pay that kind of dough:lol:) ".

Hey .. I just read that on MSN as I sit here awake at 4 in the am.

Pretty amazing....but I would pay for it if I could afford it.

In the past, I have found that a good haircut makes all the difference for my hair. I just feel better with that perfect cut! I use to keep my hair layered as it grew out and my stylist was a celebrity stylist out here in LA ( she use to do Jody Watley and Cherelle). I wish I hadn't have lost contact with her, because nobody has been able to cut my hair like that since.

Miss Anita ...Where are you!!!

i wouldn't pay for it IF i could afford it. I would only pay that if I really felt I couldn't get a perfect cut somewhere else for a fraction of the price. People who pay that aren't actually paying for the cut, their paying for the prestige of walking around with a 800 cut.

EXACTLY!!! At the end of the day your hair is cut. Whether you went to the domincans for $10 or to him for $800 at the end of the day your hair is shorter than when you went in. No one is gonna say "Oh, she got a cheap/ expensive haircut" They are all gonna say "Oh, you got your hair cut" Period. Getting the $800 cut is just your way of saying to yourself that "I'm somebody and I can throw money around like that." And what happens if you don't like the cut? That's $800 wasted! Like Story said, "Dude's just gettin' his hustle on." Hey, more power to him. :lachen:

Now this is definately the TRUTH. It IS the experience, the quality of the cut is all in the stylist and their shears. The only thing this will probably guarantee is they are cutting with the highest quality shears. I can only imagine what they cost now...twenty years ago I had some $400.00 shears. Interestingly enough most black stylist thought I was crazy...I digress.

HA, like others I wouldn't pay that kind of money even if I could afford it. That's the price of a one way ticket home to Africa! Those richies are tripping...

NEVER!!!!!!!!

But I have a friend who pays about $500 for a color and cut, which I think is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tell her all the time that she's wasting a lot of money. She could still go to a good salon and get what she gets done and pay maybe $100-120. But she HAS to go to the Elizabeth Arden salon or some other ritzy salon on 5th Avenue, Park Avenue, or Madison. I love her but I think it's just ridiculous.

Not from him. B/c I saw that ladies, and it didn't look $800 hot. Now I've definitely thought abotu payig a good sum for a Derrick scurry haircut, b/c he knows black women's hair, but nobody's $800. A good haircut should make you feel that good. not literally be that much.

$500 for colour and a cut?? That hair better be banging for months at that price! Personally I refuse to spend $100< on any service. So, until there are no people in my area in my price range and my income increases dramatically I am sticking to it.

whoa. :nono: never! not in a million years! not even if i was rich!! Thats craziness!! And when i looked at the video i was even more shocked to see what a typical plain jane haircut it was.

Ok--I guess if you have the $$$ to spend on a $800 haircut.
I wasn't that impressed.--Her hair looked great, but not $800 great.

Oh, I thought razor cuts were a no-no for healthy hair?

I've paid $$$$ twice for two different celebrity stylists in L.A. to do my hair, and I can honestly say that BOTH times were among the most disappointing hair experiences that I've ever had in my life. I'm talking about mediocre performance in everything from customer service to the end result of my hair style. Call me crazy, but I'm a firm believer in that you should get what you pay for, especially if the price is that high. So if I'm breaking that kind of bread to get my hair done by a so-called "expert," best believe it better look and feel like I did!!!

Anyway, my regular stylist I've been going to for a while now is the only one I've ever been able to trust doing my hair. She's no bargain, but she's not outrageously priced either. She could out-perform both of them heffas in her sleep! I'll never pay an outrageous price to get my hair done EVER again, regardless of whether I can afford it or not. All that glitter ain't gold ladies!

There used to be a salon in the local shopping plaza where I got my hair cut by this man (who happened to be white). He was simply and purely amazing with the shears. My hair was perfect and fell perfectly and was easy to mantain as I think one of the truest signs of a good stylist and style is one's ability to recreate it after the fact. The salon is no longer there, hasn't been for years, and i have no idea where he went when it closed.

There have been times when I have thought that I would pay major money to find him and have him do my hair. Goodness knows I have cumulatively spent $800+ over the years at stylists and salons that burned my scalp, ripped through my hair, wasted my time, didnot do as I asked, and in general did a lousy job.

I do not have that kind of money - but if I could find someone who did a great cut and style that looked good even when I did it myself after washing - heck yes, in a hot flash. Maybe not $800, but i would certainly be willing to sacrafice quite a bit to be able to afford someone is really and very good.

One of the things I liked about this guy is that the writer said that while he is working, he will talk to you if you ask him questions; otherwise, he is focused on the task at hand. In all honesty, how many of us have been to stylist who are so busy chatting with someone else, talking on the phone, trying to do more than one head at time, that we wonder if they are even really paying attention to us? How many of us have felt they were not respectful of hour time when it took them hours to get the job done? I certainly have and more than once. For me, that sort of treatment is reason to never return.

$800 is a lot of money to me, and this man is way out my price range, but hey - if he can get it, more power to him.

I don't think I would pay that much for any haircut. But I've got to hand it to Orlando P., Sally H. or any stylist who can make that kind of money off his/her skill. This is a shining example of perceived value vs. real value. Of course his stock went up the moment he started getting paid big bucks for his work with celebrities. No way he could go back to $45 haircuts after that. He pushed the envelope and he's managed to get enough clients to fill it.

Also, most of his clientele appear to be those of the silkier, straighter hair types and their perspective on what makes a great cut differs somewhat from those of us with more texture. I can't tell you how many times I've heard some of them exclaim, "OMG, your hair looks so good!" after their friend/sister/mom/whomever gets a 2" blunt cut at our salon. Of course, our price is a mere $13, but you would think the cut totally transformed the person the way they carry on.

The bottom line is that $800 does not a good (or great) haircut make. A good haircut is one that is suited to the client's facial shape, head shape and hair type. A great haircut is one that also brings out the client's best feature, such as the eyes, is easy to style/maintain, looks good wet or dry and grows back gracefully.

I would rather pay big bucks (not necessarily $500-$800) for a great haircut than pay big bucks for a great handbag. You wear your hair every day and it is often one of the first things people notice about you.
