Well, I'd been hearing a lot about Sebastian's Coloursines ...

My black hair fades due to sun and relaxing ...

I had been using Bigen ...or Robert Craig powder hair color.

But I'd heard SO many great things about Colourshines that I ordered two huge bottles of black orchid. I was ready for the big shine .

I thought it came out pretty good ...although I hated having to use a lot of heat to set it. But today at work under the bright lights in the bathroom, I looked in the mirror and saw two strands in the front were turquoise! Aye! :lachen:

It's so funny, I'm not even sad. But I will not be using this again.

I can't deal with the color bleeding on things anyway.

So... next up ...henna!

Sorry that you experienced undesired results. I hated Sebastian colourshine. It made my hair jet black instead of auburn, not to mention it was very drying. I prefer Clairol textures and tones.

Turqoise? Green? Woooooww! How '80's, lol!!
At least it's just streaks and not your whole head. That's too bad, though. Now you know to stick with what you know!

"Why is your hair green?" asked a friend of mine at a baby shower we attended. Coincidence that I too had a black orchid Colourshine rinse like yourself? I think not. Sorry you had this experience. Besides the green/turquoise hair--this rinse was HARD to get out and even rubbed off onto clothing for a few days after I got it. I got some L'Oreal Uncolor and it helped, but it is a year later and some parts of my hair STILL have this rinse on it. :( Try Jazzing next time. I remember it working well.

Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to let you know that if you are experiencing greenish tones, it is due to the color of your own strands, and the base color of the rinse/dye. The base color of the rinse attaches to lighter peices of your hair, even if it has been colored over. Black rinses are especially known for this.

The best way to fix this is to either rinse with a red tone first, or mix red in with the black. It will not make your hair red, only eliminate the green tone. This used to happen to me all the time when I rinsed my hair black after having a light blondish red color, until the hair grew out.

If you are familiar with the color wheel, coloring is easy.

Hair is a mixture of the 3 primary colors: red, yellow, and blue. Secondary colors are orange, green, and violet. If you look at the color wheel, the color opposite the unwanted tone will neutralize it. This means if your hair has a yellow tone, violet will cancel it out.

Also, green makes orange brown, even thought they are not directly across from each other.

And finally red will neutralize green.

I'm not surprised with your experience with black orhid. But there's been PLENTLY of warnings about the black orhid colourshines on this board.

Supergirl: I remember when you first had your bad experience with the black orhid. I learned my lesson then, and stayed away. Coffee bean all the way!

I only used Cinnamon Colourshines. I absolutely love it. It could be just the black orchird that has the problem.

Hmm. Maybe I'll sell my unopened bottle of black orchid on ebay and experiment ONCE with a brownish Colourshines.

If that doesn't work, I'm through with it.

Surprisingly, no bleeding today. That was a relief for my towels and clothing.

I'm still researching henna, though.
