to 12 weeks...this is my first time, Today I'm in my 12th week..... I didn't even plan to do it however....this really wasn't so "bad" I have usually gotten touch up at 11 ( ok, yeah I know its not that big of a difference but, the thought of washing my hair in my 10th/11th week was a nightmare for me) SO I thought! I have realized...(with your perspectives on transitioning, extending ect) that its really in the way you approach it....
the tangles scared me!!!! the comb out ( AHHHhhhh, was what I went through)

This site has really changed my approach and has heightened....my love for my hair!! in all its stages! THanks again for sharing and giving me a new outlook!!!!!!

PS...here's what I learned to Do....

1. stop combing...straight down from root to tip....I realized I did more damage with the comb and brush by going into ( i mean deep) into my hair day to day....I've learn to comb in sections...not only in parts but from the end, then work my way up ...in 3 parts almost ( I hope that makes sense).....ie. 2 pony tails but then each pony, I started at the tippy tippy tip, then mid shaft....while holding at the top, then getting closer to root area ( gently at this point)

(I know this may already be known but this helped me so much ) :)

2. brush lightly into an updo or ponytail....I wore my hair down but when it wa super cold here in NYC I wore it up... oh yeah, oiled ends every other nite ( Hollywood's carrot oil during the day and oil concocution in the PM....at the roots and ends lightly

3. During rollersets ( yes, I did one this past Thurs.)....LOTS of WATER mixed with Keracare Foam Wrap.....I love this stuff, my girlfriend uses it and she swears by keracare ( plus LHCF thumbs up)

4. My leave in weapons ;) Rusk Smoother from crown to tip, serum and something I saved for this stage in the game....SMooth n ShinesRepair Silkener on my new growth.... the applicator tip is the bomb!!!

http://www.allurebeautysupply.com/browseproducts/SMOOTH--N-SHINE-Repair-Xtreme-Silkener.html

ALSO...the serum mixed into my hair....Fantasia IC for Hair polisher and protector on the ends (created so much slip)

5.Bigger rollers...this requires less sections to manipulate and quicker setting/ drying time (greys, black and coke bottle purples)

6. I do have a blower and I did my roots then wrapped the first night only....

7. Time and patience...slowly but I got thru some tangles

All and all its nothing new, or that different..... just my approach....I didn't see my hair as such a chore ( I admit I do that sometimes, even when I'm not at 11 and 1/5 weeks)

I hope no one gets offended because I've stated that my hair can be a chore ( its not meant insult..you know :) )

Take care and thanks again.......

PSS...the new Essense has tips on haircare And they mention extending your relaxer...Interesting :look:

maybe we have a member among us .....

PEACE

CONGRATS!!!!

I definitely know that making it to week 12 can be a chore. I just did it about a week and a half ago for the first time. And yes, it is a big difference between week 11 and week 12 girl. :lachen:

Kaddy.....YOU know! I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels the 11th v 12th week thing :lachen:

PradaLOve!!! Thanks so much girl...I've been lazy about transferring my pics.....I'll update soon ;) thanks

That's great news CCD. I look forward to seeing some updated pictures of those glorious locks of urs :)

Congrats!

PS. I think they and Hype Hair have a member or lurker here too.
:lachen:

I know right???!!! the advice and everything was very similar and detailed....moisture for naturals....water being the best one to spritz on you hair daily.....

relaxed ,using conditioning poos and cond...... OHH AND this was the best one....how we need to have a balance of proteinAND MOisture with relaxed hair!!!!!

Now that is the 1st time I've seen that in a magazine!!! I learned that HERE!!!:scratchch

Nice spread though...check it out if you can..... ( Jada and Will cover)

Caramel!!!! girl thanks!!!...I think the Smooth NShine helped alot!!! plus that tip really gets the product where it belongs....... come to think of it...I think that would be good to have a leave in (or mixture) ...in an applicator bottle in general....I never get my products in my scalp/roots area all the time.......

Hmmmm, new project

Congratulations on 12 weeks!

Yes, I saw that Essence article too suggesting stretching. My first thought was a lurker journalist could be here. What better place than LHCF to get tried and true hair tips?!

Congrats on the extending CCD!!!:)

I never thought I could extend the way I did last go round (14 wks, with no braids/weave) until I found this board - it's such a godsend!

Now u know that u can do it and it's not as bad as ya thought!

I am not a fan of the smooth and shine product, it was just okay for me. But the applicator tip is simply the best. It was that tip that made me realize that the reason my hot oil treatments werent working before is because I wasnt necessarily reaching my roots by pouring it on and rubbing it in. Now when I apply it with that bottle I see a marked difference.

I know EXACTLY how you feel! Especially the "in all its stages" part :yep: Congrats!!

Cutebajan!!! I'm sorry that smoothn'shine wasn't that great for you....I actually didn't like it at first either...I thought it did nothing for my hair....but then as more new growth came and I tried it I found that it does help with combing when I do my rollers.....I can actually say my new growth is easy to deal with and its my relaxed ends that tangle....( not a happy camper when that happens)

But anyway, I realized I could get a clean combout with the product at my roots..... the Applicator is great though...I will be saving the empty bottle to refill with my concoctions :D

Thanks guys!!!

Congratulations on reaching 12 weeks. Trust me it is worth it to stretch out each touch up. I am always amazed by the new length I get each time.
