Texturizing question for 4ab members....

I am seriously considering texturizing. I have picked up several texturizers and they all suggest not to apply to hair that has been previously stretched (i.e. braided, blow dried, etc.) in the last couple of days. My problem is that I NEVER wear my hair in its fully shrunken state. My question to those that texturize, do you follow this rule? For those who don't have curl definition, were your results similiar to what your hair would look like if you blow-dried? My final question is do you use a mild perm or a "blow-out" kit.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

by blow out kit do you mean afro blow out kit? If so be very very careful of them they are really cheap relaxers in disguise, they are no-lye type too. DO you use lye or no lye relaxers? If you plan on texturizing you can use a regular relaxer just leave it in your hair depending on the texture (its usually 5-8 minutes for most). CurlyCurly has a really great texturizer and she will be able to give you a more in depth answer. GOod luck.

I'm a thick 4b around the hairline area. I just posted something similar to this. I am thinking about only texturizing the very front and edges of my hair for a more uniform look and a softer texture.

I suggest getting info from CurlyCurly also about a texturizer. There is someone else too on this board, I can't remember her name at the moment.

I use a no-lye relaxer for only a few minutes, which has been working like a texturizer on my coarse hair. I still have my natural waves but it's looser and more manageable.

Edited to add:

Her name is Model Chick717! She has beautiful, texturized hair.

Thanks alli77 and Isis!

Well, I guess so. I've never had braids, but I do recall reading that braiding leaves weak spots along the hair strands. I've never blow-dried, then relaxed within 2 days either. However, I have washed or rinsed and relaxed the following day without a problem.

I use a mild relaxer (revlon realistic - lye)

NOTE: As a 4B, you will want to be careful with texturizing. Many 4b's report that they end up with frizzy or straight hair when texturizing. As always, I recommend a strand test to give you an idea of the results you might expect and to determine the strength and timing for you. I leave a mild on for 20-25 minutes. When I used regular strength, I left it on for approx. 15 minutes. These times may be too long for most people. So, my point is, everyone is different.

Hey!

No, I wouldn't recommend using those "blow out" kits--I would use a mild lye relaxer.

Also, I think they say to not process "stretched" hair, because hair that has been blowdried, or flat ironed tends to get straighter when relaxed. I found this out for myself before. Also, I know of some people who have had lots of newgrowth and when they went to the salon to get a touch-up, their stylist blow-dried their roots a bit.
