Are texturizers only for short hair or can someone who has grown out their hair with braids able to use a texturizer just to loosen up the curl of her hair?
Any length can be texturized. As it grows, as long as you don't overlap in your retouch, longer hair can continue to have that style. My friend has been getting her hair texturized for 8 years or so and it is probably well below brastrap length when straight. It's shoulder length when curly. Mine was below shoulder length and texturized last year. The photo is in the Photo Gallery. At any length you'll have to be careful not to overlap the relaxer onto the previously relaxed hair, unless you're going for a straighter look.
I think it would be wise to do a strand test to determine how long to leave it on and which strength to use. A mild relaxer left on for 8 to 10 minutes wouldn't do anything at all for me, but if you're unsure, a mild relaxer would be a good place to start, like crysdon said. Your hair and how relaxed you want it to be will determine how long to leave it on.
Thank you so much for the advice. I'm going to have my salon do the texturizer, mild relaxer. I'm growing it out right now but I wanted to make sure I had the correct plan of attack for next year.
