Hi girls! I am getting my hair done on friday and was wondering what I can do to protect my ends. I recall a thread on this awhile back but I am not certain. Will essential oils be okay on my ends or shea butter...your suggestions are appreciated!

Hey Alli77,

when I went to the salon before (which doesn't happen a lot) I brought my own protein conditioner. It was Motions Silk Protein Conditioner. I brought it for her to use it after rinsing out the relaxer but she also used it on the length and ends of my hair to protect it from the relaxer. I think you can pretty much use any thick conditioner to protect your hair but I don't want to say anything wrong. I just know that the Motions worked well for me. Good luck:)

Any thick moisturizer or condition will work so you could use shea butter. You don't want to use anything sticky because it will make it more difficult for your stylist to part your hair to apply the texturizer.

don't use a lot of whatever you may use. It will break down the texturizer/relaxer and you may think you are experiencing under processing. I use motions mild (with conditioner added) to make my relaxer rather weak as to not damage my colored hair.

I second the conditioner, I would use maybe a cholesterol one. The Shea butter might penetrate your hair too much and not work so great as a buffer IMO.

I know this is a little late but here is my 2 cents! I apply lots of conditionere before I texturize. What did you end up doing?

I put the conditioner on my ends but then I went and my hairdresser wet my hair down and I was like "oh no!" but then I was relieved when he put on a conditioner on my ends, the results were good, I still have a lot of straight ends from a previous hair dresser and I am not ready to cut off all the straight ends. I will post pics soon probably of my hair wet cause I will be doing my braidouts and don't have time to show the air dried results.
