between me being mesmerized by my new growth, the positive feedback from everyone currently transtioning, the incredible photo albums ya'll have posted and the fact that i have always secretly wanted to see my own hair i am completely taken with the fact that i am gonna transition. Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

Smart girl!

Good luck hang in there and be patient cause some time in the begining it can get frustrating but you will feel liberated once it grows past about 6inch.

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

I'm so happy for you!! I promise,it will be exciting and at some times discouraging. May I suggest using Carol's Daughter HHB during your transition? Also DON'T COMB YOUR HAIR WHEN IT IS DRY!!

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

Good luck! Yep - it's a mixed bag (even for long-time and medium-time naturals)......

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

WOW!! Good Luck

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

So what are your plans, Jainygirl? A long transition - meaning 1.5 years or more? Or a shorter one - a year or less? What regimen are you planning on?

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

i'm aiming for year to a year and a half. i would like to trim the relaxed ends gradually during this time until it's gone. i've been scanning older threads to figure out what to do to keep my new growth managable and not interfere with the relaxed parts. so far using sta sof fro has been very good to me
smile.gif
i was also told about hair butter by CD so i will be trying that as it grows out. I am going to keep my same schedule for washing which is once a week, but would like to try to possibly find a new shampoo--i currently use CON and want to try something else. Part of the reason i want to transition instead of chopping
nono.gif
is so that i can figure my hair out. what will work on it and start practicing doing things with the new growth. i'm no hair diva so i need LOTS of time to practice
smile.gif
for now i will wear my bun and muddle through

Hi Jainy

Congrats! Welcome to our world

The ladies have provided some really helpful tips...

I'm gonna be real with ya'.... I encountered some horrific tangles
mad.gif
.... some of the products & techniques that helped to detangle my "relaxed" hair immediately did not have the same results on my 2-3 inch transitioning hair... in fact, they made the tangles even worse!
shocked.gif

Not to scare u, but to inform u... be prepared for those products that worked well on ur relaxed hair to have only so-so (if any) results on ur natural/transitioning hair.... this also goes for techniques/regimens.

"Part of the reason i want to transition instead of chopping is so that i can figure my hair out. what will work on it and start practicing doing things with the new growth. i'm no hair diva so i need LOTS of time to practice" ... I think that ur off to a wonderful start already!

Enjoy getting re-acquainted with ur natural locks

Oh yeah, as for the tangles, once u reach 2-3 inches, hopefully u'll have a solid regimen with dependable products... tangles will become a headache of the past... the journey will only get easier
trampoline.gif
... find a VERY DETANGLING leave in too

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

Congratulations! You'll have some rough spots but thats why we're here. The Sta-Soft Fro is an excellent idea, it really moisturizes and helps with breakage. Also after you wash you might want to try Mane n Tail Detangler. It gives my natural hair so much slip. I've been natural for one year now.Happy transitioning.

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

OHHHHHHHHHH MY ALLAH WE HAVE LOST ANOTHER RELAXER-FIEND!!

nOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Just kidding, Jainygirl, welcome to the Darkside! I dont plan on transitioning. After i reach waist length, i'll just chop it all off and donate it.

Happy growing girl!!!! You will be so pleased!!

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

Good Luck to you Jainygirl. Remember this will require a lot of patience. Are you going to do a big chop or transition slowly?

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

Congratulations Jainygirl! I'm still relaxed and will remain this way until I reach at least bra strap, maybe a little longer, then I will be coming to you and others for help with transitioning too! I'm sure I'll mainly just do a ponytail/bun most days and smooth the newgrowth around the edges, and then do twist outs and trim 1/2 and inch a month! I know..........those Natural pics were AWESOME!!!! I just love hair! Relaxed, Natural, Texturized!! I love it all! We have the best, most versatile hair on the planet!!! Thank God for our wonderful hair!!!

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

Great news Jainygirl, I think everyone should revisit naturallness at least once during their adult lives, that way if they ever decide to relax again, they know exactly how to care for their hair when/if they want to go natural again.

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

Congrats on your decision! I did a long transition myself (2 and a half years), so it definitely is possible. Hang in there!

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

Yes, Skeegeemb, I totally agree! If for no reason than the pure fun of it! I can't wait to reach bra strap or a little longer and then transition! I would really want to do it this time without doing the Big Chop I did last time! When you spend so much time and energy growing out your hair, it's really really hard to let go of it all! When I did my Big chop my hair was only just barely grazing my shoulders in the back and about chin length on the sides, so it wasn't as big a deal as chopping off bra length hair!! But Natural is where I'd like to go again in the future!

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

Congrats on your decision jainygirl!!! I know, those transitioning albums were really inspirational
smile.gif
. Good luck on your journey.

Congrats....I just started too and I was fondling my new growth on the way home today

Re: Taking a Deep Breath--I\'m Officially Transitioning

Wonderful!!!!....I transitioned for 7 months...so you can do it for as long as you need too...feel free to pm if times get rough...

I think the hardest thing about transitioning is changing your thinking towards your natural...it truly is beautiful...and it will be so worth it...

Let us know how you are coming along with it.
