swimming with grease & a bun?

is it okay to use vaseline/mineral oil over conditioner before hitting the pool/beach? also, is it a good idea to swim with my hair in a braided bun, or do you think it will all unravel underwater?

I think it would be better to use an oil that penetrates and protects. Coconut oil on damp hair is excellent for this. I'm swimming alot this summer and always do coconut oil and/or conditioner.

Coconut oil will penetrate the hair and you won't be trailing an oil slick behind you.

I wear my hair pulled back in a single braid and I swim underwater ... no unraveling.
