I'll be going swimming the day after I happen to be relaxing (Profectiv) and doing a henna treatment. What do you think? Any precautions? Concerns?

Slather your hair in conditioner.....I heard that somewhere..

thank God I no longer have to think about this....I am not sure if you can do that right after a relaxer...cuz you are going to have to wash....

I say don't do. I am natural now, but when I was younger I did this and after a couple of days my hair had severely broken off. This event marked the beginning of my hair woes.

Absoultly a no no in my books. The relaxer already contains chemicals mixing it in with the chlorine right after a swim.. Eeek I dont recommend even if you could (which you could) I wouldn't dare risk maybe 6 weeks into it but not right after.

You sure can! Just make sure you do the following:

-Wet your hair and saturate it with conditioner as Blackoutangelz said
-wear a swim cap(very, very important)
-Right after you finish swimming, make sure you wash with a clarifying or chelating shampoo. You can also purchase a swimmer's shampoo and wash with that as well. Then follow up with normal conditioning.

HTH! As long as you protect your hair, you're good to go. You'll only experience problems (read: breakage) if you don't do anything to protect your hair.

I agree, however I dont think you should swim right after getting a relaxer even if you take these precautions.

I was a swimmer athletically as well as a lifeguard and I had a horrible incident when I was in my teens. My hair fell out after getting in the pool a day or 2 after relaxing. At least wait 3-5 days and make sure you have washed your hair once before going swimming. Im not going to spit any scientific knowlegde but I will give you first hand accounts. If you have to go dont get your hair wet. Thats just my 2 cents.

Personally, I wouldn't chance it so soon. I'd recommend at least wash & DC 1st..put a leave-in on so the hair doesn't absorb the chlorine. But this assumes you are swimming in a pool. I don't know if it's as big a deal if you swim in a lake/ocean right after. I've just heard to wait at least 48 hours before wetting the hair to allow the relaxer to fully set. Swim caps rarely keep the water out...JM $.02:)

Thanks for the advice ladies!

The day really calls for looking cute. :perplexed But I am not losing my progress 'cuz it comes slow as it is! This is a special time for me and SO but it turns out its gonna be hot tub action only. ;) I think I can manage to keep my head above water....
