Hey, thanks ladies!

I'll be reopening my album later this month.

I've been conditioning wash with Suave Tropical Coconut for over a year now. About once a month or whenever I need to, I will do an Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse or baking soda scalp treatment.

After washing I like to comb through and leave in a mix of Herbal Essence Conditioning Balm, Tropical Coconut, and coconut oil. The Conditioning Balm gives me lots of slip for detangling - thanks Jade21!

On the top of the leave in, I usually comb through or scrunch through some texturizing gel.

I'm experimenting right now with braiding my hair after gelling it up. I'll let ya know how that goes.

Keep it growing SVT!!!! And that Suave Tropical Coconut is wonderful!

SVT what is a baking soda scalp treatment? Please share and by the way your hair is gorgeous. Congratulations.

SVT- is that all you do as a regimen? In your avatar, that picture shows great texture definition of your hair.Is that a braidout or is your hair naturally wavy? And you did not answer my question,chile...how long have you been natural? What prompted the decision to be natural?

Thanks, brickhouse!

I make a baking soda/water mix to spray onto my scalp whenever I feel it needs it. I have a 2 - 3 oz spray bottle that pour about a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda into then fill halfway with hot water, shake really well, then finish filling with warm or hot water. I spray liberally onto my scalp let it sit for a sec, then go on to my regular routine of doing a conditioner wash.

I don't normally measure my products so you may need to adjust your measurements if you try this. I'm real lazy and just prefer to just go by instinct based on past experiences.

I had been natural off and on for almost ten years and pressing in between the times that I did not keep up with my services. My last chemical service (Designer Touch Texturizer) was in late 2000.

I started frequenting hair boards in January, 2001 to find something that would help my severly damaged hair. I had it all - splits, breakage, dryness, brittleness, etc. One of the first things I learned from the hair boards was to not use so much heat. So, after a good self trim, I gave up the curling iron and began using sponge rollers or setting my hair into a wrap-like set at bedtime. My ends were happy about that.

My pressed hair was looking and feeling better after that change but I still felt that it could be better.

So I kept on reading the boards and became interested in wearing my hair natural. I figured my hair would really thrive because I would be able to moisturize it 24/7 and I wouldn't have to tussle with maintaining a press. I was also encouraged by the enthusiasm of black women online who had already been wearing their natural hair and who provided advice for anyone interested.

October 31, 2001 was my first day of being natural with the support internet hair boards to run back to in case I needed advice.

I'm not big on intricate styles so I would normally pull my hair back into a scrunchie or do a braidout then tie it up some sort of way. I only recently started wearing it loose late last year.

In my current avatar, my hair had been pulled back in a scrunchie all day with a kinky puff* at the back. I don't usually apply texturizing gels unless I wear my hair loose. Pulling back my hair is what stretched out the top. I left the ends as they were. When I took the scrunchie off, I thought the look would make a cool pic.

*kinky puff - I have a couple of ways of wearing a puff.

1. kinky puff #1 - braid wet hair and let air dry for about 30 minutes. Unbraid and let hair air dry for rest of the day.
2. kinky puff #2 - twist wet hair then secure with plastic clips and let air dry for about 30 minutes. Untwist, then let hair air dry for the rest of the day.
3. cottony puff - pull back wet hair and let hair air dry.

Hey SVT, really nice hair. Reminds me of mine just 8 months ago... I didnt quite get ur process of going natural and excuse me if my question will sound dumb. But did u ever do a big chop? I mean is that u were reffering to when u said october 31st was ur 1st day natural? Cuz if u did the big chop in oct.2001 then that's a whole of growth for 2 and a half years...
smile.gif

YES!

You shouldn't criticize unless you know the whole deal.

Not yet.

I've witnessed horrible instances of stolen pictures being used on fetish sites and dating sites.

Never forget this is the internet and this board is public. Your image and words are posted for freaks the world over to do with as they please. Long Hair Care Forum is not a little bubble all unto itself on the world wide web. I'd advise everyone, especially those under 18 years of age, to use extreme caution when communicating any type of personal information.

Yes, it can get dangerous. I don't like the idea of people "stealing" pictures either and then posting for their own use-for whatever reason.

Thanks for the compliment!

I never did a big chop. I refer to 10/31/01 as being my first day natural with the support of the hair boards because that is the day that I decided to not press my hair after washing and conditioning it.

I had previously tried being au naturale for a short time back in the early nineties. At that time I was a teller for a bank. A customer had made an ugly remark regarding my hair and that disuaded me from continuing that experiment. I went home and pressed it that night.
