How many of you have used this? Exactly how does it work? Is it damaging?

I'm bored with my hair and instead of coloring it or cutting it I was thinking of getting it braided up and then just putting some Sun In on it so I can get highlights while I work outside this whole weekend.

I've used it, it turned my hair a bronzy goldish color, it definitely will lighten your air as soon as you spray it on, either with a blowdryer or the sun. I am not sure about the damaging effects though. It claims to be natural products that lighten the hair, and it has no ammonia like permanent dye. But it does not wash out so you will be stuck with the highlights till your hair grows out.

 They still make that stuff??

Wow waaaay back in the day we used to use it
Everyone I know had major dryness and breakage after a while. Especially with more exposure to the sun. Maybe they've changed the formula since then.

heck yeah..i used that stuff when i was about 15 yrs old..me and my friends sprayed and sat in the sun and baked with no sun screen..my hair was orange blond...the i had the nreve to relax it the same day..needless to say..i had no hair..within a few days...chile..dont do it..unless they changed the formula..like someelse said...

I used it when I was about 12 years old, I also got the orange hair along with MAJOR breakage, I would definitely steer clear of the stuff.

I've never used it but have heard that it is very damaging.
YES. I messed my hair UP. First, the lightening effect wouldn't stop. My hair got lighter and lighter and lighter. Mind you, my hair gets lighter on its own with sun exposure. By the time summer was over, I had wheat-blond streaks.

My hair was so unbelievably dry and crunchy. I didn't think I'd ever survive the damage.

What??!! I haven't seen that stuff in ages. I used it back in the day and it turned my hair orange, too. I ended up dying it blue-black to cover it up. Hair was just a *tad* dry after that!

I used it as well about 20 years ago  Didn't know it was still around.

It lightened my hair but it broke off from the dryness. Your hair will continue to lighten also.

Not a good idea

Same thing happened with me! At first it was kind of cool, but then I was like dang how much more lighter can it get?! The damage wasn't immediate. For a while I thought I was in the clear until all of a sudden my hair became dry city and felt like a brillo pad! It took me forever to nurse it back to health!

I used to use this when I was in high school. It gave me nice aburn highlights (since I kinda placed it here and there on my hair). I liked it back then.

Don't do it! For ALL of the above listed reasons! :nono: :nono: :nono:

I used this in college. The color didn't seem bad once I dealt with the dryness with some grease but I would be embarassed to be seen with that orange and brown hair now.

Wow thanks for the input everyone. I'm just getting so bored with my hair and my one year nappiversary is coming up and I'm getting restless. Last time I got restless I BCed a few months earlier than I expected. LOL

Reneice used it. http://public.fotki.com/Reniece20/h...nge/my_hair_growth_challenge/1000088_img.html check out her april pictures. she mentioned it in there somewhere.

I found what she said: Thank you! Yes, it's from using Sun-in. I sprayed it on my hair section by section, then combed it evenly through the section. Then I blow-dried the section until it was dry. You'll see it starting to lighten after about 5 minutes. If it's not as light as you'd like it to be then just spray the section again then repeat blow-drying. Sometimes areas will be a little lighter than others. You MUST shampoo and condition your hair after you've completed lightening your whole head....or else it will continue to lighten.

But be careful because it can break your hair, as with any lightening hair product. I didn't get that much breakage from it, but I did notice that some of my ends on my sides were breaking off because I was using too much heat. I don't recommend using Sun-In. --I won't be using it anymore!

Hahaha! Would you all believe I tried this silly product again about two years ago (before I found LHCF). I must have been bored out of my mind or sumthn' stupid! I used this guaranteed hair destroyer when I was a teen. I turned my hair every shade of red, orange, then blonde before it just snaped off and blew away. Well, 20 yrs later I can attest that the product can and will produce the same results! Thank goodness the second time around I only did the tips on the front section, so when it broke off I could just comb them into the rest of the front. HAHAha. My vote- leave that garbage alone!

sorry

I wonder if caucasions have the same experience? Maybe it's just not for OUR hair? How can it still be around after this long if everyone had this same experience?
