Hi Ladies,
I have been following one threads about the poster's hair coming out in long strands. I am having the same problems....In addition to other suggestions, posters suggested she start with clarifying. I am going to follow all the suggestions and if they don't do it for me, I will go on and relas (I am 12 weeks post).....Any suggestions on good shampoos that I can get from the BSS or drugstore? (I am going by Sally's and Walgreens on lunch today)

Thanks so much because this is getting really depressing to see this big handful of hair come out everyday and I don't want to start stressing because that could make it worse (although I secrectly stress:confused: )

Thanks so much!

I'm not sure a clarifying shampoo will help with shedding. I would suggest a protein treatment for that, or even a shampoo that contains garlic as some ladies here have suggested. I use Alter Ego Garlic & Avocado as a medium protein tx.

But if you do want a clarifying shampoo, I would suggest Suave. These shampoos mainly remove product buildup from my understanding, so I don't know how they could help with shedding.

Hope that helps!

I use this one, and I like it.

I alternate between the CON clarifying formula and the Kenra Clarifying shampoos.

I hear praises about the Keracare 1st Lather.

One,
Thanks for the suggestion...I understand that clarifying won't stop the shedding, just picking up on another posters tips that she tried, along with doing a protein treatment. I already have some aphogee to try to combat the shedding; bought the kind for damaged hair. I used the 2 minute reconstructor a couple of weeks ago, but I just need something stronger so I am hoping the treatment for damaged hair will work for me. Also saw somewhere about the garlic treatment and garlic shampoo to help, but I just may try to find the product you're talking about (Alter Ego Garlic & Avocado) so I can get my shot of garlic and protein in one.....

Thanks again!:)

Thanks for all the responses. Although my hair is shedding really bad, I've been doing co-washes and probably need to clarify anyway (need all the help I can get!) to get all the excess. Going to follow up with the protein treatment.

For some reason, I was just thinking the clarifying shampoo was going to be up in the dollars like the protein treatment or any other special type of treatment you would buy for your hair. Didn't realize that you could get a cheapie clarifying shampoo....

Quick question...does any one know what's the ingredient that clarifying shampoo has that regular shampoo has that enables the clarifying shampoo to really clean? Just curious...

Some of them have tea tree oil as a cleansing agent as it cleanses more thoroughly and stringently than a sulfate like ALS. Some of the others just double up on sulfates. While the "moisturizing" or regular version of the poo may have Sodium Lauryl Sulafte, the "clarifying" version of the poo may have Sodium Lauryl Sulfate AND Sodium Laureth Sulfate. Many of them also have rosemary which strengthens and cleanses the hair.

I'm partial to Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree poo & con b/c they were the first of my healthy hair journey and that poo has never done me wrong. It leaves my hair clean but soft and the conditioner has a tingle that is to die for, and t's moisturizing.

my favorites:

Pantene Purity Clarifying shampoo
aubrey Organics Green Tea Clarifying shampoo

you can also add a bit of baking soda or ACV, both work very well.

John Frieda Relax Total Clarity Shampoo (May be a tad hard to find, but it's still sold online), or KeraCare 1st Lather Shampoo

I believe that the combination of having product buildup and new growth causes the hair to tangle excessively especially near the new growth causing the hair the shed excessively. In another thread I mentioned that I was having this very same problem and I used every protein treatment followed by every great moisturizing deep conditioner only to suffer from tangles and shedding like before. It wasnt until I took the suggestion of someone to CLARIFY. I clarified and followed it by a moisturizing shmpoo and moisturzing conditioner and my tangles and shedding stoped. I still got my touch up a week later to be safe but tht week in between i no longer suffered from the excessive shedding.

Thanks! What an education! I have never clarified and have read a lot about it here and have seen the poos in the store, but didn't know..Thanks again!

I heard that Nexxus Aloe Rid is pretty good. Right now I use Suave Daily Clarifying which is rather harsh IMO, but gets the job done. I am gonna try the Aloe Rid shortly.

Jewell,
Can you let me know how you like the Nexxus aloe rid once you have tried it?

To stop the shedding you have to do a steam treatment with oil or your favorite moisturizing conditioner, trust me it really helps with shedding and dryness.

The shampoos I use to clarify are Surge Powerwash and Tresemme vitamin C deep cleansing shampoo and they won't overstrip your hair. You can follow with a good moisturising shampoo afterwards or just deep condition really well.
