Hey folks I want to get 1/8 of an inch trimmed from my hair but i dont know where to go. I have a couple of great stylists but i'm not SURE that they will take 1/8th of an inch. I'm afraid they may take more and then i'll be UPSET. I dunno what to do. I thought about doing it myself but i've never cut my own hair and i may end up looking crazy afterwards. I'm in the Detroit area. Please help

i know someone's still awake tonight. cmon ladies

When I needed a dusting, I took a ruler to one stylist recommended her (Daneen in Chicago). She laughed. But I was serious.

So that's my recommendation. Take a ruler. Show them the most you want to take off. Don't let them turn you away from the mirror, and make sure they show you how much they took off after the first snip to make sure that's the appropriate amount.

That's what I do. If they are good hair care professionals AND you have been taking care of your hair, then stylists will know that a dusting is all you need and will not take off more. That's been my experience as well. HTH:)

This sounds like a great idea! But I just hate stepping on ppls toes...sometimes even if it's gonna benefit me!

But truthfully, I'd just do it myself. I also know that the dominicans here do what you ask. They're pretty good about listening.

Based on the pic in your siggie, your hair is long enough that you should be able to do it yourself. You can physically look at your ends and see what needs to be trimmed off. 1/8 inch is not a lot so your hair visually shouldn't change. You should start out small and do S&D (not necessarily 'dusting' per se) sessions here and there until you finish the entire head. Good lighting is key as you'll need to look for hairs that are either split or are a/b to split (any red or transclucent ends)...

HTH

I go to WHITE WOMEN stylist when i need a dusting. Yea I said WHITE WOMEN.............Supercut, Mastercuts, etc.:yep:

This is when I really love the "angry black women" myth LOL. The WHITE WOMEN are soooooooooooooooooo scared that I will flip out that they barely take anything off and will keep asking me "Is that enuff? Is that enuff?"

Hehe- its so funny

I get my roommate to do it every other relaxer or as needed. She knows I'd kill her if she cut more than I ask her to. I haven't found a stylist that I can trust.

That is funny. I might have to do that. I usually go to supercuts and what not but a black woman usually does it.

Very true. The fear of you "setting it off" up in there makes any one of those chicks trim w/the utmost precision, lol!

Well ladies I did it. I took the plunge and went to Borics. I've never been to a white salon/stylist in my life until today but I decided to try ur suggestion. I'm happy to say I did not leave traumatized. She was asking me if she cut off enough when she finished...lol. I said yes thats great STOP. It seemed like she was really looking for split ends and not just cutting everything. I really appreciated that. I told her i'd be back in the future :yep:
