Stretching woes

Hi Ladies

I'm a newbie and have found lots of great info on the site :) Unfortunately I'm still having two really really big problems.

1. I generally touch up every 12 weeks or so, but after the 8th week I cannot put my hair into the a decent ponytail. No matter what I do and use my edges are still fuzzy. Sometimes when I think its gonna ok when I look in the mirror fifteen minutes later its fuzzy again. I've tried using scarves overnight, but I'm a restless sleeper and my hair looks so bad I always have to do it again in the morning

2. I'm tried of having to depend on salons to get my hair done. I want to try roller setting my hair myself. They make it look so simple at the salons that I figured it wouldn't be a big deal. I tried to do it twice, but each time my hair tangled so much that its was soooo discouraging. I couldn't make a straight part, or any part to save my life  Both times I got so digusted that I put it in a ponytail, let it airdry then patiently waited till the salon opened the next morning.

If you have any tips to make my life a bit simpler, and have me not look a mess when I leave the house it would be greatly appreciated :)

Have you tried twists? When my hair gets too unruly for a decent bun I spend the last week or two in two strand twists on either side with the ends pinned up. Just as easy to scarf and go and lasts for at least 2 days easy. Not to mention, easy to redo. Just spritz with a little water for take down, moisturize, finger comb lightly and retwist. easy peazy...

Well I can't help ya out on the rollerset cause I suck at that too! But for your ponytails I may be of some sort of help. You mentioned that you are a rough sleeper, don't worry you don't have to sleep with the scarf on overnight to get sleek edges. In the morning when you wake up put your favorite gel, pomade or moisturizer on your edges (after you pull it in a ponytail) then tie a scarp preferable silk or satin over your hair and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Take off scarf and viola! Nice smooth edges!
