I hve been wearing the same hairstly for practically 20 years. A rollerset wrap.I got lazy when I was preggers and didnt perm it for 8 months so i was a little natural but I still wrapped it.I want to try something new so im of to a salon.I dont have issues with my hair growing or breaking.I have lazyness issues.I have three kids and dont have the energy most of the time to venture far from my, wash once a week deep condition rollerset regime. My mother swears conrows break your hair off.But I think they look cute.
So which would be easier and safer for my hair?
How long should I leave it in?
I want to try to stretch until October which will be six months
Can anyone think of a good way to rotate these styles out for maximum stretch and what would be a good regimne.

I'm no expert but I have to agree with your mother! My hair was cornrowed for the first time last week and I feel that around the edges the hair is breaking some (it might be that it was pulled too tightly).

I like the ease of the style and feel that it is cute. But, I'm going to talk to my hairdresser before deciding to redo them!

IMHO, I would have to say strawsets may be the better protective style. The cornrows may cause some damage to your edges. However, there are some people sehair thrive with cornrows. So, you may get some mixed views on this. If you have fine hair, I would say to try the strawset or a rollerset with very small rollers (which will give you a similar look to the strawset).

HTH!

Cornrows. It covers your ends. Strawsets, pin curls, etc. will tangle your ends and cause them to break.
ITA and cornrows, if done correctly, will not break your edges and your hair will indeed thrive!

I agree. I have never had a problem with cornrows. I don't get them braided too tight and I don't have them for more than 3 weeks. I still wash and condition as if my hair wasn't braided whenever needed.

I do the same thing. My hair is in cornrows now and I wash them. I did these cornrows myself so I know they arent too tight. I find that when others do them they pull too tight in the very back and I have those irritating bumps back there. The last time was the last time I will let anyone else cornrow my hair.

So do you think if the cornrows are too tight, this will cause the breakage at the edges? I really like the cornrows for a protective style, I just want to make sure that I can protect my edges. Any advice?

I tend to agree. A good strawset can last for up to 2 weeks (I've done one on a friend and it was gorgeous). The only thing is that it can have the potential for tangling the hair. In my opinion I would get cornrows put in by someone who knows what they are doing and doesn't pull too tight.

You should spray them every day with braid spray (I prefer African Royale BRX spray) and then rub some oil in your hands and run your hands over your braids.

I wouldn't leave cornrows with just your own hair in longer than 1 week. If you use extension hair then you can go to 2 weeks (but not longer than that).

Cover your head at night with a scarf.

I vote cornrows. Because you can constantly skeet moisturizer on them and you can also wash your hair while in cornrows.

:lachen: ...that was funny. Skeet Skeet!:lachen: :look:

I voted 4 cornrows. Although since I am on my 1 month hiatus, I am using straw sets as my protective style. So far, So good.

I agree with the posters that said cornrows (as long as they aren't too tight). I have some in now and I wash/condition/moisturize my hair as usual, but the bonus is -no manipulation! I just tie my hair up with a silk scarf and night and moisturize every AM & PM. I will keep them in 3-4 weeks give my hair time to rest and rebraid after about a month.

cornrows....AS LONG as you keep your ends moisturized and protected, they are not kept in too long and they are not braided too tight.

my vote is for cornrows, as well. Two weeks ago, I had twists and when I took them down I had the worst tangles for some reason. Currently, I have cornrows and I am loving them. My plan is to wear cornrows for two weeks and unbraid for a braidout for week 3.
