Ladies, has this ever happened to you?

I cowashed a moment ago then when I got out of the shower, i applied section by section a dc (my beloved Pantened relaxed and natchal :giggle: mask), then took my soft brush and brushed my hair into a bun. After I did this, my scalp felt like it was burning. This has happened a few times before, the burning, but it's so rare that i always forget.

What do you think is the problem? Has this happened to you? I haven't combed my hair in maybe a week, i don't think i scrubbed my scalp to hard when i cw'd but maybe i did???

That happens to me when I scrub too hard so now I just easily massage.

ETA: I am tender headed

Maybe the cowashing caused the skin on your scalp to soften and the brushing, even gently, abraded the scalp?

Could you have used your nails during the cowashing part? Did you use a different conditioner then what you usually use to cowash?

Er, that's all I can think of.

So it's not just me. I think i am still tender headed as well so that may be part of the problem.

I don't think i used my nails, but maybe i rubbed too much (i guess) ands somehow opened up my scalp. It's just strange that it happens.

Thanks for your insight :)

My scalp used to be on fire every time I cowashed and I was so sad because I liked the softness it gave my hair...then in another thread I mentioned it and was advised to try cowashing with non-cone conditioners and that ended the whole problem. I now use Trader Joes Nourish Spa for cowashing and no more burning problemos!

Yes this has definitely happened to me before. My punk scalp can't handle a lot of chemicals (it's a big reason why I went natural in the first place). Because it's soooooooo super sensitive, even some conditioners make it upset.

Do you normally have a sensitive scalp?

How is your scalp now? Do you think that putting it in a bun might have aggravated an already tender scalp?

No, i don't think i do but i could be wrong. This only happens occassionally which is why i always forget to post about it.

No, i don't think i aggravated it. it doesn't hurt anymore. It was just the initial burning/irritation that i had for maybe 5-10 minutes.

It has happened to me before...I don't know what causes it, but is usually happens if I had a lot of build up on my scalp.

Sometimes I have it briefly when I take my hair down at the end of a long day. It's like taking a weight off or when your foot wakes up from being asleep just not as severe.

I'm tender-headed, but I haven't noticed any ill effects on my hair at all.

Did you use pins to secure the bun? Could you have poked your scalp?

DH scratched my scalp with a thin sharp comb earlier this week (felt so good ) but next time I cw'ed it did sting/burn a bit. Probably opened up my scalp. :ohwell:

I got burning on my scalp when I used this.I also get it when I use products that are heavily scented or contain a lot of dyes.I guess my scalp can't take it.
