I am sad. It's my birthday and my hair is not as planned. I gave myself a 3 year plan to have brastrap length hair and I was so close! I am 2 1/2 years in and I failed. my damage is so freakin bad, I just need to start fresh, so I cut my hair. It is just a starter cut and it is obvious I need to cut more and I will go to a professional as soon as time and money permits. I really need to start doing prog pics with makeup - scuse my sad look upon my face.

I WILL HAVE TO CUT ANOTHER 2 INCHES BUT I WILL LEAVE IT TO THE PROFESSIONALS.

Sometimes a fresh start is just what you need. And I'm sure you know more now than you did then, so this time will be even more successful. Good luck!

Sorry you didn't reach your goal, but at least you are starting off the new year with healthy ends.

Very courageous of you. What was wrong with your hair? I see the ends were not full, but not everyones hair grows out full ya know.

I can't find it right now, but there was a tread posted from another board/website that gives a very long detailed explanation of how to repair your hair using a method of washing, conditioner washing, and deep conditioning treatments every couple of days. I used this method two years ago for myself and one of my daughters - it worked wonders. We still had to trim dead ends, but it worked.

As I recall, it started out with using a clarifying shampoo and then a light protein and then a heavy moisturizing deep conditioner with heat or a bag. The next few times were the deep moisturizing conditioner, and then using a moisturizing shampoo diluted to wash, and repeat the deep conditioning. In between, co-washing with a moisturizing conditioner, a creamy leave in, and seal with a few drops of oil.

This method worked for this woman, and I can tell you it worked for us. And when I first started here, my hair was so brittle and dry and breaking it was a jagged mess. There is hope. Be sad, and then resolve to try again, make a new plan, set a new goal. Think about what you were doing that didn't work and fix it. Your hair looks shiney and full except for the ends - obviously you're making some positive changes and progress. Read and reread the stickies that have information for taking care of hair. Review the products you're using - do you need to change? Review the methods - do you need to make changes there? Write it all down as many times as necessary until you figure out the problem and what do do about it. Give yourself a year for each hair milestone - you won't reach your goal overnight, but you will reach your goal.

Never speak defeat - never quit.

thanks guys for encouragement because I'm so freakin dissapointed.
It's not that it didn't grow out full, (although I do have thin, fine hair strands) it wasn't full because of the breakage that developed, and it was getting worse and worse- thinner and thinner. The brittle and dryness is from the henna/indigo mix I did a few weeks ago. My hair never recouped and it's just adding to the breakage. At least before it was moisturized and silky, now it's just a hot mess. I HATE henna and will never try it again.

I understand. I almost did a BC last night. I am tired of breakage too. I ended up just cutting my sides down to the NG. I will start over with them. If the rest of my hair doesn't get right over the next couple of weeks I'm going to just BC and start over. I had to lose hair when I just got to BSL, but it is what it is.

First let me say happy birthday!!! Today is my birthday too:grin:
Second, newflower really gave some great advice. Know that you are not alone in this. I have been there. I was at shoulder length but due to being overprocessed I am at neck length...however, my hair is back on the road to being healthy.
You did a really good job with your cut. I would do what newflower and stretch my relaxer as long as I could without breakage. I recommend wearing protective styles to reduce/prevent manipulation of the hair while it heals.
You can do this:yep:

Yea - this year was bust! between the chlorine this summer and the amla/ henna/ skikakai bandwagon and the coconut lime mixture and the henna indigo crap, and lye relaxer touch ups, then transitioning and back to no -lye- my hair has had it.

I do know better now and I know what works for my hair more so than eva and will stick to it. I will be on the protective style kick for a while, and now I know when I can stretch and when I can't not necessarily x amount of weeks EVERY time. I won't be doingthe pool and I won't be doing lye relaxers. I definitely won't be doing henna.

Happy Birthday!

I'm sorry you had this setback but I'm going through the same thing. My ends at the front were thinning also and I cut them off two days ago.

Don't give up. It might take more time but we will get there.

First.....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!:dance7:

I'm sorry you're going thru 'hair drama' and I understand your frustration. Look on the bright side, you now have the knowledge to solve and repair your problem.
