Does anyone use these? If so where can I find really large ones? My BSS, Sally's, Walmart, K-mart, and Target only carry the standard sized ones.

I suggest u get magnetic rollers

...Sponge rollers absorb the moisture in your hair making it dry and breakable. I remember my mom used to wear these all the time in her head at night and it made her a receeding hair line and breakage on the sides of her head. You could see her scalp through parts of her head.

Now that she doesnt use them anymore, her hair has grown back healthier and silkier.

They might be soft or so-called better to sleep in but they are more damaging than helpful.

I found some satin covered sponge rollers made by Hype Hair that I used just last night. They're great. But a little hard to find.

AWWWWWWWWWWWW Man! I have tons of magnetic rollers....they are soooo uncomfortable and the way I sleep half of them come loose. I'm looking for alternatives. Any suggestions?

I use sponge rollers -- I cover them with end papers... I haven't had any problem whatsoever from using them, but I don't use them every night... I'd say a few times a week... anyway, I do have the large sized ones; I think I found them at my local BSS

Ya know what?? They're GREAT, cuz sometimes I'll put my hair up into a high ponytail with a satin scrunchie for sleeping, and I'll just put in 2 or 3 medium sized sponge rollers on my ponytail using a little setting cream, and the next morning when I take the rollers out and take my hair down, it has just the right amount of curl in it -- and it looks like I slept with a head full of rollers!!

I LOVE 'em!!!

I love the satin-covered Hype Hair rollers too! I don't sleep in them though. I sleep pretty wild and don't like the tugging. Fortunately they curl hair pretty quickly, so I roller my hair in the morning...shower....and take them out and have nice curls.

Have u considered Velcro rollers? Ive never used them so I dont know their effect on hair...

I think the Velcro rollers are actually worse than the sponge rollers. Velcro holds on to fabrics and threads very easily and seems to keep some of whatever it was stuck to when you pull it off. I wouldn't want the same thing happening to my hair.

I used some velcro rollers in the past, and got tonsof breakage due to hair getting stuck on the rollers.

I think sponge rollers are ok as long as you use end papers and not use them too often. I'll have to try that ponytail thing, Lindy.

I'm generally a bad sleeper too so I have to secure my rolled up hair with a snug scarf. I was very pleased with the results today though. Soft and bouncy - and I was able to sleep on them with no problems!

I also bought their satin covered twisty rods. I think I'll try those tonight.

My Granny used to use sponge rollers on her hair every night. She would put LIV Creme Hairdressing and Conditioner by Summit on the ends and ALWAYS used end papers. Her hair was beautiful! It was also color treated and relaxed and long, so it is definitley possible to use sponge rollers consitently without any adverse effects if used properly.

Now I believe satin would be best. I just thought of something too. What about getting some satin material and cutting it into squares like end papers and using it. You'd have to wash them or replace as needed...just an idea.

Yup- same here- the Velcros rip your hair as you are trying to take them out.

When I was relaxed, I used to use sponge rollers with end paper covering the sponge part. They used to sell really good sturdy ones at the Family Dollar for $1.00 a pack. Now, I think they only sell the flimsy Suave brand rollers, but they probably do have the largers sizes.

The set I bought has 3 different sizes in them. Small med and large. The large ones are about a 2 inch (approx) diameter...

That’s a cool idea aprilbiz!! You could get some thin material – like satin lycra and use that. The satin they used on the Hype Hair rollers is really thin. This would be a great alternative for those who can’t find the Hype Hair curlers. I’ve only seen them in a handful of stores and none of those were in my neighborhood. They’re hard to find.

thanks, i'll be on the lookout for them now.

I think someone mentioned the flexible rod rollers. I've used those and they give a great curl. The ones I used did not have a satin covering, they were some kind of foam material. The only problem is to get a bigger curl, you have to use a bigger rod and then they become just as clumpsy and uncomfortable as the sponge rollers, if not more.

They are really good for a fast set though. I've rolled my hair with them (using a quick setting lotion like Hindu Sheen and end papers) and my hair has been set in 20-30 minutes.

since i cant do a wet rollerset for nothing i was wondering could i be able to acheive the same results using the satin sponge rollers?? has anyone used them and came out with great results?? and did you use any products such as setting lotion??
