What the hell??!?!?!? I have the randomest hair...As I inspected my shed hairs as I usually do...I noticed some of them were split midshaft or even about where the completely chemical free new growth begins..I think it's from my rough combing. Anyone else experience this or have any suggestions for dealing with it?

ETA: Sorry to be getting so many posts about problems from me..I've been very stupid this summer with the hair.. let my scalp burn..got out of hand with the flat irons after my cut...wilded out on the protein..

Yup

It happens to me a lot now.

Ease up on the rougj handling/combing and always apply a little oil to your hair before you run a comb through it.

i think it common for our hair to split midshaft...i notice that i couple of my strands do the same thing

i think its from the stress of the bends in the hair

yup- I get those too. It's so disappointing and un-encouraging (is that a word???

). I think y'all are right about the cause. It helps to know that we're not alone!!

I also noticed those, never knew how to post about it (didn't know how to describe it, lol), so thanks CheerBear.

I am happy to hear that others have this same problem. It is so discouraging

when I see that.

I've had them, but it came from rough combing and rough handling in general. Also, when I got my hair bleached, they popped up like no other.

It happened to me when I was using Surge while in breads.
I think I should've concentrate the surge only on the roots. It was too strong for my strands..

yeah, i also wanted to say that i read somewhere that any outside stress on the shaft can cause the splits too...like elastic bands, clips, etc

I just did a search on cutting split ends and one site suggested that you take a 1/4" of hair, twist down to the end, hold your shears perpendicular to the hair, use the tip to cut the split ends, and cut 1/4" on the ends. I'm going to try that method and when it's time for another trim, I'm going to try DSD's Roll Method.

Thanks Cheerbear for this post. I was wondering about the same thing. I had read that weak hair splits in the middle of the hair shaft but I wouldn't consider my hair weak. I am glad that I am not the only one that has noticed this and I will try to be a little more gentle with my hair!
