"Nutritionally the primary cause of splitting is the excessive consumption of sugars and chemical additives that weaken and starve the hair from root to tip"

I'm not a nutritionist, but she is probably correct in that too much sugar is the reason most of us don't get balanced nutrition, the sugar crowds out the whole foods we should be eating, and that ultimately is going to effect hair, skin, nails, etc. As for splitting, I think the things that we do to our hair like chemical processes, combing, and heat usage, and regular old wear and tear, are about 95% or more to blame.

I haven't heard that before but I wouldn't be surprised if it is true. Sugar is poisonous to the body in so many ways.

I dont know but my diet is chock full of sugar (not proud of that) and my ends dont split too much especially since i found this board.

I agree. I was on the Atkins diet for about eight months and consumed little or no sugar and I think I actually had more split ends during that time.

I wouldn't be surprised if sugar really does contribute to split ends. People who eat lots of sugar might not eat as much protein as they should, so maybe that's the real problem.
