If your were losing hair, the crown of your head would be thinning, only men lose around the hairline area. I think that women with curly hair, whenever they cut their hair really short, it seems like their scalp is showing more.
Women can also suffer from thinning of hair on the crown and temple areas, and this could be hereditary, but this is not the issue here. It's more to do with the density of your hair, i.e how many hairs to the square inch, at whatever length you are able to achieve. In my case, my hair is not particularly dense, and the hairs are fine, so you see more of my scalp when it is parted. Obviously, depending on how I wear it, will determine how much of my scalp you can see.
